Two of the teams favored to win this competition face off on Wednesday in what is the most anticipated matchup of this week’s games. These teams last faced off in the League Phase in early 2025, and it was a 4-2 home win for PSG at the Parc des Princes that day. A lot has changed since then on both sides. PSG are looking to win their third UCL in a row, while Man City face controversies outside the pitch that they hope will not affect what goes on between the lines.
Despite all of that, I am taking Man City to win this one based on how the respective sides have started the new season. Man City have been perfect so far, winning all eight of their matches in all competitions. There have been some impressive wins in there in the Premier League, beating Man United and Liverpool away from home. The Citizens are three points clear at the top of the league after six matches.
Then, we have PSG. The French side are notoriously slow starters, and this season is no different. They are currently in sixth position in Ligue 1, a league that they have won for five seasons in a row. They have won three of their six games, drawing two and losing one. They did get off to a good start in the UCL with a 6-1 win, but that was against Slovan Bratislava. Man City present a whole different level of challenge, especially when you factor in that this game will be played in Manchester.
If this game was later in the season, I would probably take PSG in this spot. However, Man City are unbeaten this season and are coming off a dominant 3-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Despite all that’s going on with the club in the media and in courtrooms, this City team is as good as ever on the pitch and I think they will get the win here.
