WR Start/Sit Week 5: Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Picks

Updated:

By: Jeff Pratt

Looking for Week 5 WR start/sit picks? Here are the wide receivers to start and sit in your fantasy football lineups. WR is the position with the widest range of potential outcomes, as there are a myriad of variables that factor into a receiver’s weekly production. Following key injuries across the league through four weeks, most fantasy managers have difficult lineup decisions to make. Let’s break down my Week 5 fantasy WR start/sit picks.

Fantasy Football Week 5 WR Start/Sit: Wide Receiver Picks

Wide receivers to start: Romeo Doubs, DK Metcalf
Wide receivers to sit: Mike Evans, Denzel Boston

Week 5 WR Start: Romeo Doubs vs. Raiders

THAT was the Romeo Doubs the Patriots believed they were signing this offseason.

Doubs has had his fair share of disappointing moments since joining New England, but he broke out in a much-needed Week 4 win for his new squad. Doubs established himself as Drake Maye’s go-to target, catching six of nine balls for 58 yards and a pair of impressive touchdowns. This was just the outing Doubs needed to get back on track, and he should feature heavily again in the Patriots’ Week 5 matchup with Las Vegas. The Raiders boast a tough defensive unit that should force New England to look to the air early and often, which will only benefit Doubs. Fire Romeo up as a WR3/FLEX with upside.

Week 5 WR Sit: Mike Evans at Seahawks

On paper, nothing about Mike Evans’ production to open his stint as a 49er screams “sit” this week. He’s put up at double-digit points in three of his four outings, benefitting from the red-hot play of Brock Purdy so far.

That said, it’s hard to imagine Purdy and San Francisco moving the ball with such ease against this Seahawks defense. The reigning Super Bowl champs have brought the heat consistently this year, allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to receivers per game. Evans has only caught three balls on a pair of occasions this season, and a similar statline could follow against Devon Witherspoon and company. If you can afford to look elsewhere, I’d avoid Evans and his likely-limited fantasy ceiling.

Week 5 WR Start: DK Metcalf vs. Colts

Don’t look now, but DK Metcalf is starting to figure things out. After an infuriating first year in Pittsburgh and a slow start to the 2026 season, Metcalf has now scored at least 12 points in back-to-back outings. He’s coming off a monstrous performance against the Browns in which he caught five of nine targets for 115 yards.

It appears Metcalf and Aaron Rodgers are finally on the same page, which puts the star receiver firmly back on the fantasy map moving forward as a FLEX/WR3 with upside. He should put up strong numbers against a struggling Colts secondary that ranks among the top 10 in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers.

Week 5 WR Sit: Denzel Boston at Jets

This pick doesn’t have much to do with Boston, who boasts a ton of talent and should be a productive receiver for years to come in Cleveland. However, I always urge caution for rookies after a quick start (just look at Emeka Egbuka last season). As you dive deeper into the numbers, there’s slight reason for concern about Boston’s fantasy prospects this week.

Yes, the Washington product has racked up double-digit fantasy points in three of his first four NFL games, but those numbers can be chalked up to a couple touchdowns and multiple long-gainers. Boston still only has 13 catches on the year, suggesting a reliance on big plays. In Week 5, he draws a tough matchup against a stout Jets secondary. I would temper expectations for the rookie and look elsewhere, as we’re still in wait-and-see mode with Deshaun Watson and this Browns offense.

Those are my Week 5 WR start/sit fantasy picks. Stay tuned for more start ’em, sit ’em content over the rest of the week!
