Cowboys vs. Texans NFL Player Prop Bets for Week 4

Lone Star State rivals are set to clash this afternoon in Houston. The Cowboys (1-2) are coming off of a difficult loss in Brazil vs. the Ravens. Despite Dallas’ slow start, the team is still capable of winning the wide-open NFC East. As for the Texans (0-3), the time to start racking up wins is now. Which names will step up during Sunday’s Texas-sized grudge match?

Houston is a three-point favorite with -162 moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. Dallas is a +136 underdog, with the game total set at O/U 48.5 points.

Let’s dive into the top player prop bets for Sunday’s showdown between the Cowboys and Texans.

Cowboys vs. Texans NFL Player Prop Bets for Week 4

Dak Prescott 36+ pass attempts (-107)

It’s no secret that the Texans wield one of football’s most terrifying defenses. It all starts up front, where they’re holding opponents to just 3.5 yards per rush attempt. That’s the fourth-best mark in the NFL through three games. In comparison, Cowboys running back Javonte Williams is averaging a mediocre 3.9 yards per carry. Sunday’s contest doesn’t seem like a bounce back spot on paper. Assuming Dallas’ run game is stifled once more, most of the scoring burden will fall on Dak Prescott. That’s not a complete setback; the four-time Pro Bowler is more than capable of carrying this offense.

Since the start of last season, Prescott ranks third in the NFL with 264.0 passing yards per game. Even more important, for the sake of this bet, he’s fourth in pass attempts per game (35.25) during that time. It helps that the Cowboys tend to cough up points on the defensive end, a major issue during the team’s two losses this season. Prescott has recorded at least 36 pass attempts in ten of his previous 19 appearances. Dallas owns the league’s third-quickest time of possession, averaging 27:30 minutes of control per game. That’s due in part to the team’s lackluster work on the ground. Should that continue against a stingy Houston defense, Prescott will be incentivized to hurry up this offense.

David Montgomery 11+ receiving yards (-118)

For all their defensive prowess, the other side of the ball hasn’t been good for the Texans. The team is averaging just 18.0 points per game, due in part to a dismal rushing attack. Offseason pickup David Montgomery was supposed to help out, but he’s been fairly ineffective so far. The eighth-year pro has gained 103 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries (2.8 YPC). Mediocre blocking hasn’t helped, but it’s not the kind of production Houston’s front office was expecting this season. Last week’s 33-yard showing doesn’t inspire much confidence in the veteran going forward.

With that being said, there are other ways for a running back to make an impact. Montgomery has been involved in the passing game this month, snagging seven total catches over Houston’s first three games. During each of those matchups, he’s gone over 12 receiving yards. The struggles of quarterback CJ Stroud might help for the purposes of this bet. He’s averaging a career-worst 6.6 yards per pass attempt, opting for safer short passes instead of bombs downfield. As an added bonus, this Cowboys defense has been mediocre at best this season. They’re giving up league’s eighth-most points (27.3) per game. Keep in mind, this unit allowed the fourth-most receptions (85) and second-most receiving yards (735) to opposing running backs in 2025. There should be opportunity for Montgomery to make his presence felt through the air this afternoon.
