Take the layup. That was Ori’s advice for his Savu tribemates at Tribal Council. Take the layup. And in this case, the layup was voting out Eric.
But things are never quite that simple in Survivor. Ana made the classic mistake of offering herself as a decoy and paid the price. Ultimately, she got completely blindsided — despite whatever it was that Rob tried to do — and became the second person voted out in Survivor 51.
But who will be going home next? Here are three castaways who could be in danger when Survivor 51 returns for Episode 3.
Who will be voted off on Survivor 51 next?
Devin Way — Toka
In theory, Devin should be in a good spot with Toka. All seemed well in their tribe after earning immunity and Devin’s bromance with Brady seemed to be back after the pair were on the opposite sides of last week’s vote at Tribal Council. He is even included in a potential alliance with Jelly, Patt, Mike and Brady. But there are cracks under the surface.
Jelly loves Devin, but his approach of blatant honesty is red flag. Jelly admits that she can’t risk him blowing up her spot. Making matters worse, she shares her concerns with him in front of another member of the tribe in Patt. Devin can’t afford to have multiple tribe members eyeing him suspiciously.
Devin immediately tried to position himself as a tribal leader. He’s already lost one power struggle against Brady in the Aaliyah vote, and Brady’s … intensity was on full display again this week. Something tells me Brady is not taking a back seat to anyone, so what would it mean for Devin if he loses another battle for control? Can he survive being seen as a liability and something of a blowhard?
Eric Macksoud — Savu
It looked bad for Eric going into Tribal Council. Ana thought the tribe had spoken and was prepared to snuff out Eric’s torch, but little did she know the tide had turned and she would be the one sent home in a blindside.
Just because Eric stayed doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods. Despite suddenly concocting a strange plan to evict himself, Rob seemed dead set on getting Eric out earlier in Episode 2. Sharonda says Eric is driving her crazy. Ori says Eric is rubbing everyone the wrong way. Even Jeff seemed annoyed with Eric as the tribes made their way into the immunity challenge.
Despite all the evidence against him, Eric seems oblivious that people are coming for him — and that’s the most dangerous part. Rob’s reveal at Tribal, seeing his name come out of the urn multiple times and the HARD pitch Ori was making to send him home should have Eric reassessing his game. I just don’t see him being that self-aware.
The bottom line is, every time Savu goes to Tribal Council Eric is in danger. That’s just a fact of life in Fiji until Eric goes home or finds some way to turn down the heat heading his way.
Lewis Kelly — Toka
I noted last week that Lewis going to Exile Island and failing in his bid to win an Idol is really a worst-case scenario. Not only did he not get the prize, but naturally the other players don’t know that and are suspicious.
Sure enough, right off the bat, Survivor superfan Kilby has sirens going off in his head when Lewis recounts his Exile Island story. Even if his lie detector is on the fritz, Kilby thinks Lewis has an advantage and that’s enough to put a target on his back.
We don’t really see a lot of Lewis bonding with his new tribemates, so I still think it’s easy to envision a scenario where paranoia spins out of control and is too much for Lewis to overcome.
