Who Was Voted Out On Survivor Tonight? Episode 2 Recap

Updated:

By: Bryan Armetta

Survivor 51 had a little bit of everything in Episode 1: two tribes, captivating characters, and several intriguing twists. Last week’s season premiere will be best remembered for a frantic ‘live’ Tribal Council that saw Aaliyah get sent home from Toka. The tone has been set early: no one is safe.

So, what’s next for our 20 remaining castaways? Below, we’ll recap all the twists and turns from Wednesday’s episode, titled “Weaponized Honesty”, along with revealing who was voted out.

Survivor 51 Episode 2 Recap

Fallout from Tribal

Jenna has a second lease on life, grateful to still be on the Toka tribe after having two votes sent her way. As for Devin, it’s time for damage control. He reaffirms his bond with Brady, stating that he doesn’t need to vote with someone just to be allies. It remains to be seen if that’s all talk or the two big names can find some common ground going forward.

With Aaliyah’s departure, a beleaguered Lewis takes her place on Toka. He lets everyone know about the existence of Exile Island, and reveals his inability to chop his way towards an immunity idol. Kilby isn’t buying it, claiming the Irishman’s story is “a lot of baloney.”

A New Target on Savu?

Ana and Alexis are forming a bond on the Savu tribe, due in part to their shared Iranian ancestry. The latter cites Sharonda as a threat, due to her background as a doctor. Anyone with those kind of smarts serves as a threat. Linnea is another name that Alexis throws out there, all as part of an effort to “cause a little chaos.” She mentions those names to Carter, but it backfires. He thinks she’s “blowing like the wind”, and tells Ana that her friend isn’t someone they can trust going forward.

Ana does a bad job of covering when Alexis comes over, claiming her group was “talking about popcorn.” It’s such a bad bluff, to the point that Alexis immediately grows suspicious. So, the schemer decides to flip everything on its head. She tells Linnea that Ana is mentioning her and Sharonda due to their smarts, and word spreads like wildfire. In a matter of minutes, there’s a new target on Savu.

Bloodied Brady

This is Survivor; injuries can happen in an instant. Brady, while chopping wood, cuts his thumb by accident. The wrestler is beyond worried, repeating “what was I thinking!”. It’s not even a matter of physical pain; the 27-year-old is more concerned about his long term future in this game. Brady states that he’s feeling fine, calling himself an “airhead blonde” and “my own worst enemy.”

Despite a slightly amusing indifference to the pain, Brady is going through the ringer. He’s worried about being a “failure” that sends himself home early. Fortunately, Survivor‘s excellent medical team came to the rescue. Despite the bloody nature of his injury, the big man is reassured that he should be good to go for today’s immunity challenge. The only loss? A small piece of thumb, taken in a plastic bag by the medical team.

Bagging a Challenge Win

This week’s reward challenge is all about trust and execution. Players are grouped into pairs, with one leader helping their blindfolded teammate. They all need to navigate their way through an obstacle course before undoing three sandbags tied to a pole. Then, one player on each tribe will need to build a pole that’s long enough to place those sandbags on hooks. You can only use one player for each; three different tribe mates will need to hook a sandbag. What are they playing for? Some much-needed tarp, a hammock and other shelter supplies.

Toka jumps out to a slight lead, due in part to another Herculean effort from Brady. He manages to drag the much smaller Kilby through the netted portion of the challenge. Maggie struggles to hook hers early, but Devin steps up in her place. However, Rob does a great job securing Savu’s second bag. Lewis catches up, pitting both tribes in a dead heat going into their final bag. Christian is oh-so-close, but it’s not enough. Jelly manages to hook the final sandbag, giving Toka its first challenge victory. It’s a much-needed boost for a group that’s already been through the ringer this season.

Another Injury Scare…

Things went from bad to worse for Savu. Kristin suffered a leg injury, leading to some concerning swelling. However, the crisis manager isn’t one to devolve into a panic. With some herbs found on the beach, she attempts to ease her pain. For someone that’s been applying to this show for 26 years, a med evac would be a crushing blow.

Things are getting ugly at Savu. Rob calls Eric out for being dragged and blindfolded by Linnea. It’s a terrible move, leading to several members of the tribe questioning his attitude. The Rhode Islander doesn’t get the hint, continuing to go after Linnea when they meet in the water. He not so subtly criticizes her puzzle performance during the previous episode’s immunity challenge. Keep in mind, Savu ended up winning.

Another Immunity Idol…

Jelly isn’t in a great spot. She was on the wrong side of the Aaliyah vote, putting her in an alliance of just two alongside Devin. Still, things often work out for the underdog on Survivor. During a trek through the woods, she gets her hands on a much-needed hidden immunity idol.

It’s a major revelation, adding another layer of chaos to the already entertaining Toka tribe. Now, a once-threatened player has the necessary ammunition to flip a potential vote. Jelly joins Savu’s Rob as the only players to uncover a hidden immunity idol this season. It remains to be seen if there’s more than one hidden on each beach.

However, Jelly isn’t disclosing her greatest asset to Devin. His brutally honest playing style makes him a potential liability going forward. However, Patt comes off more as someone Jelly can trust long term. She informs her of the hidden immunity idol, creating a bond between the two players. The pair hatch a plan to form a new power alliance with Brady, Devin and Mike.

Toka Triumphs

It’s a grueling immunity challenge for Episode 2. Players will need to drag a giant whale from a platform in the water, through an obstacle course, and onto the beach. Then, they’ll need to roll three balls into a spot at the end of a board. Making things worse is a torrential downpour as the players are attempting to haul this massive cetacean.

Both tribes are struggling at the start of this one, needing a team effort to get over a rolling obstacle. Carter steps up for Savu, almost single-handedly attempting pulling his whale over. However, it’s Toka that gets out to a massive lead. They get their whale to the end, then begin rolling balls. Ultimately, it isn’t even close. Before Savu can get their whale to the end, Toka places all three balls into place and wins immunity with relative ease.

Ana-yone But Me

All signs are pointing towards Eric going home. Rob is leading the charge, but it seems like the tribe is in agreement. However, Ana commits a Survivor no-no: volunteering her name as the decoy vote. Immediately after, she admits it’s the “dumbest thing I ever did.” Still, all is not what it seems. Keep in mind, Linnea and Sharonda have some reservations. While the two desire to vote with the majority, they have reason to suspect Ana is not their friend.

When Carter sits down with Ori, Linnea overhears him discuss targeting “them.” Linnea immediately tells Alexis and Sharonda, and eventually loops in Eric. The latter is perplexed, but he believes Linnea’s revelation is proof that he’s making strong social bonds. The common thread between all of these players is none other than Ana. Sharonda believes Eric, for all his social flaws, is more trustworthy. However, she’s also close with Ori. The three ladies try to sway the big guy to their side, which would give them enough votes to form a majority alliance. However, he’s been angling to get Eric out for a while.

Ultimately, Ori is forced with a difficult decision: stick with Sharonda or get rid of the pesky Eric. The latter’s unpredictability is a major red flag, at least in Ori’s eyes. The other men on the Savu tribe seem committed towards making that the vote as well.

Rob’s Big Move?

An emotional Rob is feeling it, missing his family and flirting with the idea of going home early. He talks it over with Eric, telling him that he’ll hand over his Shot in the Dark in exchange for Eric going along with whatever he says at Tribal Council. His fellow Rhode Islander isn’t buying it. For all of Eric’s flaws, he’s savvy enough to avoid simply going along with someone else’s plans.

To make things even more hectic, Rob is talking about doing something “never done before” on Survivor. For a show with over 50 seasons of history, that’s quite the claim. His last-minute scrambling with Eric seems to suggest there’s some potential for a jaw-dropping Tribal Council, but talk is just that: talk. In just the second vote-out of the season, taking a massive swing would be quite the shock.

Tribal Council Chaos

There’s plenty of uncertainty going into this vote, with Ana and Eric being thrown around as the two primary targets. Ori makes his pitch straightforward: everyone should know their role and show they’re part of the team. However, Sharonda doesn’t see it the same way. She says its fine to feel uncomfortable; vulnerable players should listen to their intuition.

Before players begin voting, Rob makes his big move. He gets up and tells Eric they need to talk, er whisper. Rob says that all the other players are coming for Eric. Ana is, in his words, a “fake vote.” Then, after Eric plays his shot in the dark, Rob can (in theory) give the former his immunity idol if it doesn’t work. The big question is if Eric trusts this last minute information…

At the voting podium, Rob attempts to write his own name while citing a desire to keep Eric in the game. However, he’s immediately told by production that it isn’t allowed (something you’d think he knew already). In response, the New Englander says “that messes up everything.”

When offered a chance to use his immunity idol on Eric, Rob ends up declining. To boot, Eric opts not to use his Shot in the Dark. What ensues is a dramatic back and forth vote, with Ana and Eric each getting four votes each. In another shocking twist, the last two names written on the parchment belong to Ana. It’s an unexpected result to say the least, leaving her nothing short of stunned. Just two episodes in, and Survivor 51 has already given us a couple of memorable Tribal Councils.
