Best College Football Week 5 DFS Picks
Quarterback
Stud
Conner Weigman, Houston vs. UCF, $8,400
Conner Weigman has found a great home at Houston. He has the Cougars in the Top 25 and is playing excellent football. Houston ranks in the top 10 nationally in offensive success rate, EPA/play, and EPA/drive. Weigman should light up the UCF defense, which ranks 76th in defensive EPA/pass. Weigman had six total touchdowns last week and should keep it rolling this week.
Value
Austin Simmons, Missouri vs. Florida, $6,700
Austin Simmons should put up some big numbers in this home game against Florida. Missouri came up short against Mississippi State last week, but Simmons has played well all season. He has an 11-0 TD-INT ratio and has thrown for 290+ passing yards in both games against Power Four opponents. Florida has an incredible offense, but has struggled defensively. This is likely to be a shootout, just like Florida’s 52-28 win over Ole Miss last week. The Tigers are also likely to be trailing in this game, so Simmons will have to throw to keep his team in it. That should lead to him putting up some sizable figures.
Running Back
Stud
Jadan Baugh, Florida vs. Missouri, $9,800
Jadan Baugh is the best running back in college football so far this season. Baugh has 600 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns through four games, scoring multiple touchdowns in each of those games. Missouri has been solid defensively, but its defensive metrics are better against the pass than the run. In a tough road environment, Buster Faulkner should make life easy on his quarterback by running Baugh early and often. Nobody has been able to stop him yet, and it’s unlikely to happen this week. He is worth paying this exorbitant price.
Value
Fluff Bothwell, Alabama at Mississippi State, $7,100
Fluff Bothwell is one of the backs that have run well against Missouri already this season. He doesn’t put up the eye-popping numbers that Jadan Baugh does and doesn’t produce the incredible highlight plays that his quarterback Kamario Taylor does. However, Bothwell produces week in and week out, adding an essential balance to the Mississippi State offense. Bothwell ranks 14th in the nation in rushing yards and is averaging 157 scrimmage yards in two SEC games this season. He should produce against Alabama, who gave up 216 rushing yards to South Carolina last week.
Wide Receiver
Stud
Ryan Coleman-Williams, Alabama at Mississippi State, $7,400
After a shaky start to the season, Ryan Coleman-Williams has established himself as a go-to wide receiver once again. Over his last two games, Coleman-Williams has combined for 160 yards and three touchdowns. He is a big-play machine with Keelon Russell throwing him the ball. Coleman-Williams should produce against the vulnerable Mississippi State defense. They rank 82nd nationally in defensive EPA/pass. It should be a big Saturday for the Russell-Coleman-Williams connection.
Value
JJ Buchanan, Michigan at Minnesota, $5,800
JJ Buchanan has been a positive catalyst for the Michigan offense this season. Michigan has really struggled offensively this season, and Buchanan has been the clear bright spot on that side of the ball. It was Buchanan who caught the controversial Hail Mary to beat Western Michigan in Week 1. Then, over the past two weeks, he has combined for 12 catches for 222 yards and three touchdowns. He should keep it rolling against Minnesota, who have been questionable against the pass when facing P4 teams.
