A 15-game MLB slate is on tap for Friday. For those looking to cash in quickly on a bet, nothing makes more sense than an NRFI. With that being said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye. Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Which NRFI picks are worth a closer look on Friday?

Cubs vs. Reds NRFI (-130)
Clay Holmes gets the nod for the Cubs this evening. The right-hander, acquired at the trade deadline, has been a solid addition to this Chicago pitching staff. Over seven starts with his new team, the right-hander has recorded a 3.47 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 26 strikeouts (6.0 K/9). Even more important, he’s accounted for a stellar 81.3% NRFI rate this season. Now, Holmes will take on a disappointing Cincinnati lineup. The Reds rank 26th in runs scored (633) and 24th in OPS (.703). In addition, their 26.14% YRFI rate is fifth-worst in the majors.
Cincy will hand the ball to their ace, none other than Chase Burns. It’s been a breakthrough 2026 campaign for the youngster. Through 151.1 innings pitched (28 starts), he’s posted a 2.80 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 181 strikeouts (10.8 K/9). The fireballing righty held Chicago to two earned runs over 5.2 innings on August 30th. Granted, the visitors wield baseball’s highest scoring offense. Still, they might need some time to get going tonight. The Cubs have delivered an MLB-worst 17.33% YRFI rate on the road.
Nationals vs. Cardinals NRFI (-145)
In an otherwise lackluster second half, the Nationals have gotten some great pitching from Cade Cavalli. The budding ace is finally living up to his massive potential. Over his previous ten starts, the right-hander has put up a 1.95 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 75 strikeouts (11.3 K/9). On the year, he’s delivered a solid 74.2% NRFI rate as well. On paper, this doesn’t look too promising for the Cardinals. Their .655 OPS against right-handed pitching at home is last among all National League squads. To boot, St. Louis’ 26.92% YRFI rate at home is fifth-worst in baseball.
As for the Redbirds, Kyle Leahy will be on the bump in this one. It’s been a nice season from the veteran, one of the more trusted arms in St. Louis’ rotation. Through 135.0 innings (28 starts), he’s accounted for a 3.33 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 128 strikeouts (8.5 K/9). The righty has been even more effective when pitching at Busch Stadium (2.79 ERA). The Nationals have been a lethal lineup for most of the season, but the past few weeks haven’t been great. Since August 1st, they’ve scored the sport’s sixth-fewest runs (176). Even more troubling, Washington comes into Friday tied for the league’s eighth-worst YRFI rate on the road (24.0%).
