WNBA Best Bets Today: Top Prop Bets for Thursday, September 17

By: Alex Hunter

Looking for the best WNBA player props today? For Thursday, September 17, my favorite DraftKings Sportsbook picks are Emily Engstler O 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (+104), Awak Kuier O 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-130) and Michaela Oyenwere U 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (-112).

Below, I break down why each prop stands out based on projected role, matchup and recent performance.

Top WNBA Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook

Emily Engstler O 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (+104)

Engstler is shooting 36% on three-pointers this season and she has made multiple treys in three of her last four, including 5-of-7 from deep vs. the Mystics, who rank third in defensive rating this season. Engstler is in a much easier spot tonight vs. the Mercury, who rank 11th in defensive rating. No team in the league has been worse at defending outside shooters than Phoenix, as this defense is giving up the most made three-pointers per game (9.7) on the third-highest percentage (35.7%).

The Mercury held Engstler to 1-of-4 on three-pointers when she faced this squad last month, but her role is going to be much different this time around, as the Fire will be without Bridget Carleton (ankle), Carla Leite (rest), Megan DiLeo (finger) and Teja Oblak (knee). Engstler should be the Fire’s main option in this situation – her usage rises 4.2 percentage points to 23.7% with those four players off the court – and she should have a strong showing from beyond the arc.

Awak Kuier O 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-130)

With Azzi Fudd (knee) done for the season, Kuier has started in four straight games for the Wings and with the first unit, she is averaging 9.0 points and 8.8 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game while shooting 46% from the field. Kuier is handling a 13.6% usage rate during this span, but that number should increase tonight, as Alanna Smith (leg) is joining Fudd on the sidelines.

With both Fudd and Smith off the court this season, Kuier’s usage increases to 15.6%. To put the icing on the cake, the forward is facing a Sparks team tonight that ranks third in pace and 13th in defensive rating. The Wings’ 93.5-point implied team total on DraftKings Sportsbook is tied with the Aces for the highest on the slate and clearing 16.5 PR should be easy for Kuier in this spot.

Michaela Onyenwere U 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (-112)

Oyenwere is going to see a bump to her usage with Sonia Citron (personal) out, but the Mystics are in a brutal spot for outside shooting, visiting the Sky. Chicago prioritizes protecting the perimeter, allowing the second-fewest made three-pointers (7.9) on the second-lowest percentage in the league (32.4%).

Onyenwere went 1-of-2 from deep when she faced the Sky in June and she has gone without a made trey in back-to-back games. Overall, Oyenwere has fallen short of 1.5 made treys in 21-of-36 games this season.
