Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Which NRFI picks are worth a closer look on Tuesday?

Tonight, the Tigers will hand the ball to Drew Anderson. The right-hander has impressed during his brief tenure as a starter. He comes into this one with a 3.80 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 105 strikeouts (9.7 K/9) over 97.0 innings pitched. The 32-year-old has allowed a first inning run just once over nine starts this season (90.9% NRFI). Now, he’ll get to face one of baseball’s worst offenses on the road. Toronto is averaging just 4.06 runs per game, lowest in the league. To make matters worse, the Blue Jays have an MLB-worst 24.50% YRFI rate.
Braydon Fisher will serve as the opener for the defending AL champions tonight. He’s been effective as a starting pitcher, allowing a first inning run only once during ten starts this season. Fisher comes into today’s game riding a nine-game NRFI streak as well. Detroit’s offense is no pushover, currently 14th in runs per game (4.48). Still, they wield a below-average .702 OPS against right-handed pitching on the road. On the road against a solid reliever, it’s reasonable to assume the Tigers may need some time to get things going on offense.
Marlins vs. Diamondbacks NRFI (-105)
Janson Junk isn’t a household name, but he’s been a decent piece of Miami’s rotation. Over 111.0 innings of work (22 starts), the righty has recorded a 4.54 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 74 strikeouts (6.0 K/9). The 30-year-old usually gets into trouble the deeper into a game he pitches. However, he tends to start off firing; Junk enters today’s contest on a 12-game NRFI streak. His opponents tonight, the Diamondbacks, have been struggling at the plate. Arizona has scored 47 runs since the start of September, tied for seventh-worst in the majors. The Snakes are also tied for the league’s sixth-lowest YRFI rate on offense (27.15%).
As for the home team, Michael Soroka get the nod this evening. During 99.1 innings (18 starts), he’s delivered a stellar 3.53 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 95 strikeouts (8.6 K/9). It’s worth noting that the Canadian performs even better at Chase Field (2.73 ERA). Soroka comes into Tuesday wielding an above-average 72.2% NRFI rate. On the flip side, Miami doesn’t possess the most intimidating lineup. The Marlins have a 27.15% NRFI rate as well, tied with Arizona for the league’s sixth-worst mark. Soroka wields a minuscule 1.90 ERA over six career outings vs. the Fish.
