New York Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler was spinning another gem on Sunday afternoon, but he left the game after being struck by a comebacker for the final out of the sixth inning.
Schlittler left the game with a 2-0 lead and has a chance to improve to 14-6 if the bullpen preserves the lead. Schlittler had eight strikeouts, allowing just one hit and two walks.
Bo Bichette smashed the line drive at 111.5 MPH that struck Schlittler in the back of the leg. He went straight to the locker room and did not return for the seventh inning, but he was 94 pitches into his outing, so he may have been coming out soon anyway.
The Yankees will be very careful with their ace as the playoffs are just around the corner. Schlittler has become the favorite to win the AL Cy Young Award, but if he misses time, Dylan Cease could potentially close the gap.
