For the final event of the PGA TOUR’s regular season, we head to Sedgefield Country Club (par 70, 7,131 yards, Bermuda greens) in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Wyndham Championship, which has been the home of this tournament since 2008. Cameron Young (-22) is the defending champion after winning by six shots a year ago. There will be 145 golfers competing and a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds this week. Following the Wyndham Championship, only the top-70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will move on to the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Below, I have featured two of my favorite outright long shot bets to win the Wyndham Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Chris Kirk (+7200)
Kirk carries +6000 odds to win the Wyndham Championship on other major sportsbooks and he is a must-bet at this +7200 price on DraftKings Sportsbook. Just last week at the Rocket Classic, Kirk was in the mix with a T8 finish. The veteran sat third on the leaderboard heading into the final round at Detroit Golf Club, but an even par 70 on Sunday held him back from truly contending.
Kirk is trending in the right direction, though, and his next win could be coming soon. Kirk has made three straight cuts and improved in each start. During this cut streak, Kirk’s ball striking has been awesome, gaining at least 4.0 strokes on approach at every event.
His flat stick has been the issue, as Kirk has lost strokes on the greens in all of these starts, but a return to Sedgefield could wake his putter up. Kirk has made 7-of-9 cuts at this Donald Ross design and he has gained strokes putting in three of his last five visits to venue. Just last season, Kirk finished a career-best T5 at Sedgefield while gaining strokes in every major category.
Kirk ranks 11th in this field in strokes gained per round at Ross courses and he knows how to get it done on the PGA TOUR, with six wins on his resume, most recently at the 2024 Sentry. Sitting 127th in the FedEx Cup standings, Kirk has to win the Wyndham Championship to advance to next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship. This is certainly on his mind and Kirk should put his best foot forward at Sedgefield.
Austin Eckroat (+18000)
Sitting 118th in the FedEx Cut standings, Eckroat is another player that needs to make a big splash at the Wyndham Championship to qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship. At this position, a runner-up or a win should get Eckroat inside the top-70 and rolling the dice on him has merit at these long +18000 odds.
Eckroat is a two-time winner on the PGA TOUR and both those wins came in 2024. The 27-year-old hasn’t truly contended since, but Eckroat is playing quality golf right now and a spike week could be on the horizon. Eckroat has been consistent, missing only one cut in his last 12 starts and he has finished inside the top-20 twice during this timeframe.
This will be Eckroat’s fifth time playing Sedgefield and while he has missed two cuts here, he finished solo sixth at the Ross track two years ago. Eckroat carded a pair of 6-under 64s that week and his game suits this course.
23.5% of the approach shots at Sedgefield over the last five years have come from 150-175 yards and Eckroat has been dialed from this distance this season, ranking third in proximity to the hole. Sedgefield also features Bermuda greens and Eckroat has won on this type of putting surface before, winning the 2024 Cognizant Classic at PGA National by three strokes.
