Despite not winning the WNBA Finals since 2017, the Minnesota Lynx arguably run the WNBA right now, as they have both the best record and net rating in the league. The Lynx haven’t needed Napheesa Collier to win, but adding a two-time consecutive MVP runner-up definitely won’t hurt.
Tonight, Collier will play her third game of the season (and first ever in Canada) when the Lynx travel to face the Toronto Tempo at 8:10 p.m. ET.

Collier has been on a minutes restriction, playing 22 minutes in her first game of the season and just 25 in these teams’ prior matchup on Tuesday, but that hasn’t stopped her from putting up numbers. She had 24 points and 10 rebounds in the win over the Seattle Storm last Wednesday and 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists on Tuesday. It’s likely that she’ll see another slight uptick in minutes tonight, perhaps to 28 minutes. There were nine games last season in which she played between 23 and 30 minutes, and she reached 30 combined P/R/A four times, falling one shy once.
The Tempo’s name is apt. They play at the league’s fourth-fastest pace, and they’ve paired it with the highest defensive rating in the league. None of the players they selected in the expansion draft, with the exception of the currently-injured Brittney Sykes, has any defensive accolades to her name, and their defensive rating has risen by 3.6 points per 100 possessions in the minutes she’s not on the floor. As a result, Toronto has given up the second-most points, fourth-most rebounds, and third-most assists per game. It’s allowed at least 100 points in each of its last three games.
