New York reaches Sunday night at 59-45 after winning the series’ first two games, 1-0 and 3-1. The Yankees have won five of six, nine of twelve, and three straight overall. Philadelphia sits 56-49 after four consecutive losses and a 2-6 stretch since the break. The Phillies have scored once through 18 series innings despite repeatedly creating scattered traffic. New York’s momentum now meets an injury list containing Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and potentially Cody Bellinger. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Phillies vs. Yankees prediction, preview
Will Warren owns a 7-4 record, 4.00 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 97 strikeouts across 99 innings. His last five produced a 6.10 ERA, 13 strikeouts, and seven homers allowed. Warren’s four-seamer carries a .296 xwOBA, while his sinker and sweeper sit at .354 and .385. The sweeper has been especially vulnerable, allowing a .371 average and .613 slugging percentage. His changeup provides the needed answer against Philadelphia’s lefties, producing a 44.4% whiff rate and .139 wOBA. Cristopher Sánchez counters with a 2.65 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 151 strikeouts, and only 25 walks. His 1.15 home ERA across 78⅓ innings includes only two homers allowed.
Sánchez throws his 95.2 mph sinker 42.5%, his changeup 39.1%, and his slider 18.5%. Opponents are batting .142 with a 45.9% whiff rate against the changeup. That movement profile is cruel for a Yankees lineup increasingly dependent upon Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt. Rice owns a .271 average, 30 homers, and 71 RBIs, while Goldschmidt homered in Friday’s 1-0 win. Austin Wells has three homers across ten games, although his season wOBA remains .240. Jasson Domínguez homered Saturday, but his last ten still produced a .558 OPS. Bellinger’s hamstring testing threatens to remove another established bat from an already narrow order.
Philadelphia’s best chance to break through belongs to Trea Turner. He is batting .297 with four homers, eight RBIs, and eight runs across his last ten games. Kyle Schwarber carries a .251/.362/.549 line, 33 homers, and elite 18.6% barrels. Bryce Harper owns 21 homers, 61 RBIs, a .381 xwOBA, and an 11.1% barrel rate. However, Harper is batting .189 across ten games, while Philadelphia’s first three hitters went quiet again Saturday. The Phillies have produced a modest .703 home OPS against right-handers during the past month. Warren’s changeup can interrupt Schwarber and Harper before his weaker pitches reach the right-handed middle order.
Yankees vs. Phillies pick, best bet
New York’s bullpen supplies the strongest protection behind Warren. Yankees relievers own a 3.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and only 33 homers allowed. Brent Headrick has delivered 44 scoreless appearances, while David Bednar has completed 20 consecutive scoreless outings. Bednar has pitched twice this series, although both appearances required limited work. Philadelphia’s bullpen carries a 4.40 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 47 homers allowed. Seven Phillies pitchers worked Saturday, creating the clearest danger to a full-game under. Sánchez’s exceptional home length should limit that exposure, especially if he reaches the seventh inning.
Sunday brings approximately 82 degrees, light six-mph wind, low humidity, and almost no rain risk. Citizens Bank Park remains dangerous for fly balls, yet Sánchez has neutralized its short dimensions all season. Judge still cannot resume baseball activity, while Stanton remains early in his running progression. Bellinger felt his hamstring grab during Saturday’s eighth-inning double and could sit regardless of testing results. Philadelphia’s lineup possesses the louder theoretical ceiling, but its current at-bats have produced one series run. Under 8 at -114 captures Sánchez’s home dominance, New York’s relief advantage, and two diminished offenses. The push remains available if Philadelphia’s bullpen turns a comfortable finish into a 5-3 game.
Best bet: Under 8 at -114, playable through -120
Projected score: Phillies 4, Yankees 2
Best bet: Phillies vs. Yankees u8.0 total runs (-115)
