Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays prediction, pick for MLB on Sunday 7/26/26

Toronto reaches Sunday’s rubber match at 48-57 after Dylan Cease’s brilliant one-hit shutout restored some life. Boston stands 53-50 after its 23-7 surge encountered a 15-hit Toronto response Saturday. The Red Sox won Friday 6-4 before Toronto answered 6-0, leaving the series and season trajectories briefly suspended. Kevin Gausman carries trade-deadline intrigue into perhaps his final Toronto start. Ranger Suárez returns from a left groin strain without pitching since July 6. That interrupted rhythm changes a matchup Boston’s moneyline otherwise treats as comfortably favorable. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Red Sox vs. Blue Jays prediction, preview

Gausman’s 4-9 record and 4.51 ERA obscure a much healthier 3.68 FIP and 4.02 xERA. He owns 117 strikeouts against 34 walks across 115.2 innings, producing a strong 16.9% K-BB rate. Opponents carry a .310 xwOBA, 88.5 mph exit velocity, 39.2% hard-hit rate, and 8.3% barrel rate. His 94 mph four-seamer and splitter still generate chase, although his declining strand rate has punished every mistake. Tampa Bay reached him for five runs across 3.1 innings Tuesday. His previous three starts produced eight earned runs across 17.1 innings. Boston’s 432 runs rank well below its pitching-driven surge.

Suárez owns the cleaner surface and underlying profile. His 3.15 ERA sits beside a 2.61 FIP, 3.32 xERA, and 1.16 WHIP. He has struck out 25.8% while walking 6.9%, allowing a microscopic 86 mph average exit velocity. Hitters own a .283 xwOBA, .338 xSLG, 31.1% hard-hit rate, and 5.2% barrel rate against him. His sinker, four-seamer, and cutter comprise 66.2% of his arsenal. That width lets him attack both edges before burying his changeup or curveball. However, his expected dominance predates three weeks without competitive innings. Boston should protect his workload after two lower-body injuries this season.

Toronto’s right-handed core gives Suárez a demanding return assignment. Kazuma Okamoto leads the club with 23 homers behind a 91.1 mph exit velocity and 46.7% hard contact. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. collected three hits Saturday, while Ernie Clement also finished with three. Clement owns a team-leading .298 average, and Nathan Lukes enters around .290. George Springer’s three-run homer Saturday gave him 11, completing Toronto’s first genuinely deep offensive performance since the break. Boston’s lineup offers a legitimate counter through Caleb Durbin and Ceddanne Rafaela. Durbin has hit .298 with nine homers and an .894 OPS since June 1. Rafaela remains Boston’s best combination of speed, contact, and defensive value.

Blue Jays vs. Red Sox pick, best bet

Boston’s recent 15-game winning streak deserves respect, but Saturday exposed its diminished lineup depth. The Red Sox produced one hit, three walks, and 12 strikeouts against Cease. Jarren Duran owns a .262 wOBA and diminished 38.7% hard-hit rate this season. Trevor Story remains sidelined by a sports hernia, while Marcelo Mayer continues recovering from a forearm injury. Curtis Mead will not join Boston until Monday. Toronto also lost Addison Barger for the season, but Saturday showed greater present depth. Cease’s complete game left every Blue Jays reliever rested. Boston also preserved its primary bullpen arms behind Alec Gamboa’s four-inning appearance.

Fenway expects mild temperatures near 67 degrees with a light six mph wind and no major carrying boost. Boston’s bullpen owns a strong 3.58 ERA, while Toronto’s relief group sits at 3.86. That late-inning difference supports Boston, but the price overstates Suárez’s immediate workload certainty. Toronto has the fresher offense, a fully rested bullpen, and a starter whose ERA remains worse than his pitching quality. Gausman’s splitter also attacks Boston’s current swing-and-miss problem. At +122, Toronto needs only a 45% win probability. This matchup sits considerably closer to even.

Best bet: Blue Jays moneyline +122, playable through +110

Projected score: Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 4

Best bet: Blue Jays (+120) at Red Sox
