After over a decade on the air, Rick and Morty is finally getting a spinoff. One of the mainline show’s most popular recurring characters, President Curtis, is getting his own show on Adult Swim. Keith David’s titular fictional world leader will carry the torch from Rick and Morty Season 9, which is set to wrap up mere minutes before the new show premieres.

When does President Curtis Season 1 Episode 1 come out?
President Curtis Season 1 Episode 1 will premiere on Adult Swim at 11:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 26 – immediately following the Rick and Morty Season 9 finale. The episode, which is simply titled Pilot, will have a runtime around 22 minutes. It will be available to stream on HBO Max on Monday, July 27.
As was the case with the past eight seasons of Rick and Morty, President Curtis Season 1 will be 10 episodes long. It won’t be a miniseries, either, since Adult Swim has already renewed the show for Season 2.

As far as Adult Swim animated shows go, President Curtis is going to have a pretty star-studded cast. The titular commander-in-chief has had the same voice actor since Rick and Morty Season 2, but the new supporting players also have some pretty notable names behind them. There could even be some crossover between the two shows, so keep an eye out for Ian Cardoni as Rick, Harry Belden as Morty or any other members of the Smith family and their supporting cast.
What to expect in President Curtis Season 1 Episode 1
Thanks to the early preview that Adult Swim shared online, we know that the president will hold a press conference to tell the world that he killed Paul Bunyan. His new chief of staff, Banks, gets held up by Special Agent O’Doyle when she tries to follow the president out of the room. He thinks she is a dopplegobber – a hybrid between a doppelgänger and a turkey, presumably. As it turns out, the shapeshifting creature took the form of a reporter in the room, but O’Doyle manages to take care of the threat.
In typical Rick and Morty fashion, that setpiece will likely act as a cold open of sorts, rather than the impetus of the main plot. The episode’s synopsis is as follows:
“President Andre Curtis goes head-to-head with the CIA over the possession of a secret tape, forcing him to confront deep secrets of his own.”
