The final major championship of the season brought plenty of drama and excitement as the top players in the world battled it out at Royal Birkdale for the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. After some outstanding play down the stretch, Ryan Fox claimed the victory with an impressive and memorable closing stretch. As Burns stumbled a little bit early, Fox hung around the lead, although he was only even par as he made the turn after a bogey on No. 9. He dropped another shot on No. 11, but then he went on a legendary run down the stretch, making four birdies in his last six holes.
Cameron Young posted the score to beat at -9, which Fox matched with a birdie on No. 14.
Fox bogeyed No. 15 but bounced right back with a difficult birdie on No. 16. On No. 17, he hit an exceptional drive, but it took a bad bounce and ended up in a bunker. He still ended up with a birdie chance on the Par-5, but just missed it, heading to the final hole still level with Cameron Young.
The 18th hole played as the second-hardest in the Final Round, with just five birdies on the hole all day compared to 30 bogeys and three double-bogeys or worse. Fox rose to the occasion, though, with the best shot of his life.
Fox’s big birdie delivered him his first major championship win, his third PGA TOUR victory, the Claret Jug, and the title of Champion Golfer of the Year. It also delivered a huge payout to the bettor who put down $55 all the way back in Round 1. The bettor claimed a huge payout of over $100K!
