The Westies used its two-episode premiere to establish the uneasy business arrangement holding Hell’s Kitchen together. Eamon Sweeney secured his crew a piece of the Javits Center construction racket. Keeping it requires cooperation with the Gambino family, whose patience has already begun to expire.
Episode 3 moves the conflict toward a Colombian disco, where another criminal job could determine Mickey Flanagan’s fate. Meanwhile, Glenn Keenan follows the Westies’ disastrous trip to Boston, and Bridget Walsh confronts Brendan Cahill’s plans for New York.
The Westies Episode 3 premieres Sunday, July 19, at 9 p.m. ET on MGM+. The episode is titled “The Starship.”
MGM+ released the first two episodes together on July 12. New episodes will now arrive individually each Sunday through the August 23 finale.
Spoilers follow for the first two episodes of The Westies.
The Westies episode 3
“The Houdini” ended with John Gotti’s men pulling Mickey into a car. Gotti had traced Vinnie Zaccaro’s bracelet to Erin, who identified Mickey after being threatened at gunpoint. The Westies’ attempt to erase Vinnie had finally led the Gambinos directly back to them.
Eamon will bargain with Paul Castellano for Mickey’s release in “The Starship.” Castellano’s price is a robbery at a Colombian disco, sending the Westies into another dangerous job for the Gambinos. Sweeney must protect Mickey while preserving the partnership that keeps his crew attached to the Javits Center money.
Jimmy carries much of the blame for their position. He killed Vinnie, proposed the fingerprint scheme, and brought the severed hand to Boston. The drive ended with Pat killing a police officer who discovered the hand inside their car. Jimmy returned to New York without Vinnie’s remains, without a convincing cover story, and now without Mickey.
That failure should deepen the conflict between Jimmy and Sweeney. Jimmy sees Mickey as family and already resents Sweeney’s willingness to sacrifice his own men. Sweeney has spent decades surviving by deciding who can be saved and who has become too dangerous.
The murdered officer also places Glenn Keenan directly behind the Westies. Keenan will investigate the Boston killing while working with FBI agent Birdie Polk against Sweeney’s organization. The fingerprints, stolen jewelry, destroyed car, and staged crime scene give him several pieces of the crew’s hurried cover-up.
Bridget faces another threat much closer to home. She helped Brendan Cahill move weapons for the IRA, believing they were headed overseas. Cahill instead plans to use the explosives and rocket launchers in New York. Bridget seeks advice about him in Episode 3 while deciding how much she can safely tell Jimmy.
