American League clubs on opposite trajectories collide before the All-Star break, as the Minnesota Twins host the Los Angeles Angels Sunday afternoon at Target Field.
The Angels (38–58, 5th AL West) took Friday’s series opener, 4–3, though they remain stuck with the worst record in MLB. The Twins (47–49, 3rd AL Central) answered with a 5–3 win on Saturday, now looking to punctuate their first-half surge with another strong showing.
Looking at the pitching probables, we’ve got LA right-hander Jose Soriano (8–5, 3.40 ERA) taking on Minnesota righty Taj Bradley (8–3, 3.67 ERA).

In a baseball context, Anaheim is far from the “Happiest Place on Earth.” The Angels, already liable for the worst record in MLB, are stumbling into the All-Star break — dropping nine of their last 11 games dating back to June 29.
Save for impressive stretches from Zach Neto and Vaughn Grissom, LA’s offense has plunged to new depths of late. The club ranks 28th in wRC+ and 29th in both wOBA and home runs during this brutal stretch.
While the Angels’ pitching staff is trending upward en masse, the same can’t be said for right-hander Jose Soriano. Following a Cy Young-worthy start, the 27-year-old hurler is saddled with a 5.12 ERA in 12 starts (63.1 IP) since the beginning of May. Granted, Soriano remains a formidable fireballer with high-strikeout upside. But he’s in desperate need of a bounce-back outing — easier said than done with a disastrous defense and a mediocre bullpen behind him.
Minnesota Twins
The American League Central is going to get really interesting in the second half of 2026. The Twins — currently in third place and three games out of first — have surged to a 17–11 record since June 10, second-best in the AL behind Boston (17–10). They’re leading the AL in both wRC+ and wOBA amid the heater.
No Byron Buxton? No problem. Even with the superstar outfielder shelved since July 5, Minnesota has six additional qualified hitters with an OPS north of .800 during this torrid stretch. Leading the charge are Josh Bell and Trevor Larnach, who have both posted an OPS around .940 in that span.
Pitching remains a problem for Minnesota, with its solid rotation anchored by a catastrophic bullpen and porous defense. The Twins will need length on Sunday from right-hander Taj Bradley, who has tailored an up-and-down campaign in 2026. While he enters with a respectable 3.67 ERA in 17 starts, the 25-year-old righty has danced around a ton of hard contact; he ranks in the bottom two percent of MLB pitchers in average exit velocity (91.6 mph). Even so, Bradley has posted a 2.25 ERA in his last four outings (24 IP), now coming off seven innings of one-run ball against the Guardians.
Angels vs. Twins Pick, Best Bet
The Twins have won five straight games when Taj Bradley takes the mound; that trend should continue Sunday afternoon. With both teams struggling with run prevention this season, Minnesota’s red-hot offense should be the difference maker that sends the club into the All-Star break with another series victory.
