The vacant IBF lightweight title is up for grabs as former three-weight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) takes on IBO lightweight titleholder George Kambosos Jr. (21-2, 10 KOs) this Saturday, May 11. The 12-round bout is set to take place at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Live coverage of the fight card starts at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Lomachenko enters this bout following a questionable unanimous decision loss to Devin Haney last September. The former Olympic gold medalist and unified lightweight champion landed some good punches but fell short on the scorecards. “Loma” had an extraordinary amateur career record of 396-1 before turning pro in 2013. Now at 36, he aims for yet another world title at 135 pounds.
Kambosos struggled with Maxi Hughes but squeaked out a majority decision win last July to capture the IBO lightweight championship. In 2021 he achieved unified lightweight status with an upset split decision win over Teofimo Lopez. This was short lived as he would go on to lose back-to-back fights to Devin Haney in 2022.
Before Lomachenko and Kambosos fight to close out the card, the co-main event will feature a bout for the vacant WBC super flyweight title. Andrew Moloney (26-3, 16 KOs) and Pedro Guevara (40-3-1, 22 KOs) are scheduled to clash for 12 rounds, as Moloney enters the betting favorite. He is a -235 favorite while Guevara enters with +185 underdog odds, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
In the main event, Lomachenko is the betting favorite with -700 odds to win. Kambosos Jr. is a +475 underdog. The favored method of victory is Lomachenko by decision or technical decision (-175).
