Who are the 2026 World Cup Favorites?
France (+500)
It’s no surprise to see the French as one of the two co-favorites for this World Cup. France are absolutely loaded across the board, and have proven they are a force to be reckoned with in international tournaments. In the 2018 World Cup, a young Kylian Mbappe led the French to victory. Then in Euro 2020, they were a surprise early elimination in the Round of 16 against Switzerland. They followed that up with a World Cup final appearance in 2022, losing on a penalty shootout to Argentina. In Euro 2024 they made another strong run, losing to the eventual winners Spain in the semi-final. The French are always there or thereabouts, and I don’t see why they can’t have another good run at the 2026 World Cup. They won five of their six UEFA qualifying games for this tournament, drawing once. Their last loss came almost a year ago, losing to Spain yet again in the Nations League semi-final.
Spain (+500)
The reigning European champions are our other co-favorite to win the World Cup at +500. The big concern for the Spanish going into this tournament will be the health of their superstar Lamine Yamal. If he’s ready to go and fully fit, Spain will be very tough to beat. Let’s take a look at their recent finishes in international tournaments. In the 2018 World Cup, they were upset by Russia on a penalty shootout in the Round of 16. Fast forward to the 2022 World Cup, they were upset again in the Round of 16 on penalties, this time to Morocco. They made things right in the 2024 Euros, winning the tournament. They come into this tournament in scorching hot form, winning five of their six UEFA qualifying matches, drawing the other. The Spanish have only lost one competitive game in three years, and that was a penalty shootout defeat to Portugal in the Nations League final last summer.
England (+650)
Similar to France and Spain, England are always in the mix to win these big competitions. Unlike the other two, they haven’t been able to get over the hump since the 1966 World Cup. It’s been a long time since football came home, and this year’s team is more than capable of getting it done if the stars align. In the 2018 World Cup, they fell to Croatia in the semi-final. In the 2020 Euros, they fell in the final to Italy. They had another close call in the 2022 World Cup, but lost to France in the quarter-final. In the 2024 Euros they reached yet another final, but fell to Spain. The English have the third lowest-odds to win the tournament this year, and they might just pull it off.
