It’s always a tough proposition to find value in the superstars. Ohtani’s baseline is 50+ home runs, 20+ stolen bases, and 100+ RBIs. So you need to find a safe value, or take a risk on his production increasing. The good thing is that Ohtani is remarkably healthy, at least when it comes to his hitting.
Part of the problem with player props is the assumption of health. When you’re betting on a guy to pile up counting stats, one or two injuries can derail a future. Ohtani has appeared in 155+ games in four of his last five seasons, and the one “injured” season still saw him clock 135 appearances. For a star of his caliber, he’s as reliant as they come.
Ohtani racked up 197 hits during his first season in Dodger blue, then followed up with a modest 172 this past season. A decline in batting average did play a role, as he dropped from .310 to .282. But the main culprit was the pitching he faced; Ohtani drew 28 more total walks from 2024 to 2025, including a jump from 10 intentional walks to 20. With the Dodgers’ middle-of-the-order bats taking a step back, teams were more comfortable pitching around Ohtani, putting a dent in his total hits production.
Now that Kyle Tucker is in the squad, Ohtani has valuable backup. Opposing teams have to come into the zone a fraction more often than they did last season, and that’s going to make a huge difference. Ohtani’s talent isn’t going anywhere, and he’s quite the iron man at the top of the Los Angeles batting order. Shohei’s hits prop is a tremendous value.
