Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, March 24: Nikola Jokic
Nikola Jokic has claimed the King of the Court crown just once this season, all the way back in early November. It’s about time that changes. I picked the Joker to win King of the Court last week, and naturally he took only seven shots, accumulating a measly eight points. Let’s try this again.
Tuesday’s slate features just four games, and there are quite a few potential candidates to claim the crown. However, there are clear issues that limit the ceiling of most of them. James Harden is arguably the most intriguing of the bunch. At his best, he’s a triple-double threat, certainly capable of racking up the PRA. However, if he doesn’t shoot it well, the lack of scoring will keep the veteran out of this conversation. Meanwhile, scoring isn’t the problem for Jalen Brunson, but recording enough assists and rebounds is. The same can be said for Devin Booker. Karl-Anthony Towns is a double-double monster, but he rarely surpasses 30 points, which would be needed in this case. LaMelo Ball is the ultimate wild card, dropping 35-15-10 one night, and 12-6-2 another.
That leaves us with Jokic, who is the undisputed favorite to win King of the Court on this slate. Despite seeing a relatively modest usage rate compared to other superstars, the three-time MVP is a stat-stuffing machine, regularly eclipsing 50 combined points, rebounds and assists. With a matchup against the plucky Suns on deck, he’ll need to be in top form once again. I expect a monstrous outing from the best player on the planet.
