The Americans will be playing for their first Olympic gold in men’s hockey since 1980, when the legendary “Miracle on Ice” team pulled off one of the greatest upsets in sports history. They’ve competed in two gold-medal matches since, to no avail — falling to Canada at the Salt Lake City Games in 2002 and again at the Vancouver Games in 2010.
Canada, the most decorated men’s hockey team in Olympic history, is shooting for its 10th gold medal — and first since downing Sweden at the Sochi Games in 2014, the last event to feature participation from NHL players.
The North American hockey powerhouses will add another chapter to their historic rivalry, following a memorable pair of meetings in last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off. After falling to the U.S. in round-robin play, superstar Connor McDavid helped lift the Canadians to revenge in the final — scoring the decisive goal in a 3–2 overtime win.
The rematch also comes hot on the heels of the women’s hockey gold medal game on Thursday, when Team USA beat Canada 2-1 in overtime.
Sunday’s final marks the 20th meeting between Team USA and Canada at the Winter Olympics, with the latter holding a dominant 12–4–3 record. With NHL players participating, Canada leads 4–1. Still, the Americans prevailed in their last meeting at Beijing 2022 in the group stage.
Canada enters as a 1.5-goal favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, while Team USA sits as a +100 underdog. The match total is set at 5.5 goals.
