Utah State Aggies vs. Wyoming Cowboys prediction, pick for NCAAM on Wednesday 1/28/26

Logan’s a hard place to look comfortable, and Utah State treats the Spectrum like a pressure cooker. The Aggies are 16–3 in the teeth of the Mountain West, and they’re still hunting the cleanest lane to the top tier. Wyoming is 12–8 and sitting at 3–6 in league play, so every road swing is either a lifeline or a slow leak. This is the kind of night where pace swings, whistles swing, and the margin can look stable until the last four minutes. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Utah State Aggies and the Wyoming Cowboys.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Utah State vs. Wyoming prediction, preview

The math starts with a tempo meeting in the middle, not a tug-of-war. Wyoming sits at 70.5 possessions per game and Utah State is 70.2, so this should play like a normal Mountain West game, not a rock fight. The separator is shot quality and how quickly each team turns defense into points. Utah State is scoring 83.7 per game while allowing 68.3, and it’s doing it with real cleanliness: 51.2% from the field, 36.6% from three, and 17.7 assists per night. Wyoming can score too at 79.6, but it’s giving up 72.2, and the profile is thinner at 46.5% shooting and 32.9% from deep. Where it gets sharp is disruption. Utah State is at 9.7 steals and 6.1 blocks per game, and those extra possessions are how a favorite stretches air into space.

The people match the shapes, and there are enough of them to keep this from becoming a one-man story. Leland Walker (G) is Wyoming’s lead voice at 15.1 points and 3.7 assists per game, and the notes say he just popped for a career-high 30 earlier this week. Nasir Meyer (G) gives them real scoring gravity at 13.7 per game, plus 5.2 rebounds, and he’s shooting 40% from three. Khaden Bennett (G) sits at 9.2 points and 4.6 boards, and he’s a weapon late because he’s over 85% at the stripe.

For Utah State, MJ Collins Jr. (G) is the headliner at 19.3 per game, and he’s doing it on 50% from the field and 42% from three with 42 makes. Mason Falslev (G) is the second engine at 16.5 and 5.9, and Drake Allen (G) keeps the offense stitched together with 5.1 assists per game. Then the margins show up: Garry Clark (F) at 8.3 and 5.6, Karson Templin (F) at 8.1, and Kolby King (G) at 7.8 give Utah State enough secondary scoring to punish over-help.

Wyoming vs. Utah State pick, best bet

Wyoming’s best cover path is simple and very real: win the possession battle and force Utah State to score against set defense. The Cowboys are grabbing 37.5 rebounds per game and they’ve been living on second chances, with the game notes calling out that they lead the conference with over 12 offensive rebounds per game. If that shows up again, the “more shots” lane keeps the backdoor alive even when Utah State wins the clean-play battle. Wyoming also shoots 73.9% at the line, and Bennett’s free-throw profile matters when the clock slows late. The variance door is three-point spike plus whistle. Meyer at 40% from deep gives them a real heater outcome, and if the Frogs—sorry, Cowboys—keep turnovers near their season level, the math stays inside the number. The risk, of course, is that Utah State’s disruption turns this into layups and runouts. The Aggies are forcing 15.37 turnovers per game and turning mistakes into 17.84 points off turnovers, and that’s the exact pathway to a fifteen-point margin that never feels dramatic.

That’s why I’m not trying to get cute with a moneyline flyer, and it’s also why I’m not laying the wood. Utah State should still control the “good shot” economy, because 17.7 assists per game is a real identity, not a fluke. And the recent tape says they can win ugly when needed, coming back to beat Colorado State 65–61 with 25 bench points and a grind-it-out finish. But this market is asking Utah State to win and separate, and Wyoming has too many credible counters: offensive boards, a couple live shooters, and enough free-throw competence to turn late fouls into points.

The line is Utah State -14.5 with a 148.5 total, and my best bet is Wyoming +14.5, playable to +13.5. I’ve got it Utah State 80, Wyoming 71, with the spread doing the real work in the last two minutes.

Best bet: Wyoming +14.5 (-110) at Utah State
