Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, January 27: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
This Tuesday’s NBA slate isn’t exactly putting the league on notice in terms of PRA machines suiting up. On one hand, that opens the door for a dark horse to claim the crown. On the other, it leaves the truly elite offensive players that are taking the floor with a clear opportunity.
Enter: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
SGA’s scoring is slightly down this year, but this has been the most efficient campaign of his career thus far. With Jalen Williams and a myriad of other key contributors out for OKC, The reigning MVP and Finals MVP has been called upon to produce more lately. Gilgeous-Alexander has scored at least 39 in three of his last five outings, including a 47-point performance against Indiana. If he drops 40 on Tuesday, it may be tough to take the crown from him.
Looking across the league, there are few other clear contenders on this week’s slate. Cade Cunningham’s scoring has fallen off a cliff. Jalen Brunson isn’t putting up massive numbers regularly. Tyrese Maxey is struggling with offensive consistency. A big night from one of those guys could get the job done, but I’d rather ride the hot hand in SGA.
