This is the most appropriate test possible for the Seahawks. They won back-to-back games against the San Francisco 49ers, who were limping to the finish line, with the season on the line. The first game won the division and the No. 1 seed; the second win in the Divisional Round got the Seahawks all the way here. Last week’s dismantling of their divisional rival showed what’s great about this team: relentless pass rush, an excellent run game, and a playmaking secondary that puts other teams in a box.
But those games did not test Darnold. The 49ers cannot tackle to save their lives, so Darnold moved the ball through a series of checkdowns. He was able to lean on his run game, throwing for a combined 322 yards over the last two wins. With San Francisco managing nine points in those two games, there was no need to take risks with the ball.
That will not be the case against the Rams. This is a far better team than the 49ers; they can win in the trenches, have a good secondary, and have an offense that can pressure Seattle’s defense.
