With 2025 in the rear-view mirror, it’s time for the best movies of the year to take center stage. The Golden Globes have come and gone, while a handful of guilds have picked their favorites, but the 98th Academy Awards remain the main event of awards season. The 2026 Oscars could be as dramatic as ever, and the journey to the ceremony on March 15 is already underway. Voting for Oscar nominations took place between January 12 and January 16, narrowing down the field of contenders.
When are the 2026 Oscar nominations announced?
Less than a week after Oscar nomination voting came to a close, the results will be released to the public. The Academy will announce the nominations for all 24 categories on Thursday, January 22 starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The announcement show will get underway with Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Animated Short Film, Best Costume Design, Best Live Action Short Film, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay. Following a short break, the next wave of nominations will drop at 8:41 a.m. ET. The second and final batch will include nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Animated Feature Film, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Documentary Feature Film, Best Documentary Short Film, Best Editing, Best International Feature Film, Best Original Song, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects and Best Picture.
Where can I watch the 2026 Oscar nomination reveal?
The nomination announcement will air live on Oscar.com and Oscars.org, plus the Academy’s various social media accounts such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. ABC’s Good Morning America will cut to a live feed of the nomination show, as well. Viewers can stream that show on ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu.
Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman will host the announcement show. Past hosts include Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott, Jack Quaid and Zazie Beats, and Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams.
