The PGA TOUR begins the 2026 season with the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club (par 70, 7,044 yards, Bermuda greens) in Honolulu, Hawaii. This has been the home of the Sony Open since the event’s inception in 1964 and for this week, there will be 120 golfers competing and a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.

Mac Meissner to make the cut
Meissner is riding a seven-made cut streak heading into the Sony Open. The 26-year-old didn’t just make cuts during this run, he finished high on leaderboards, with six top-30 finishes, most impressively with a runner-up at the Wyndham Championship. Meissner ranks fourth in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and he finished a rock-solid T-21 in his Sony Open debut last season. Meissner shot 68 or better in all four of his rounds and he now returns to the venue as the No. 103-ranked player in the world, which is 47 spots higher than when he made his first start at Waialae CC a year ago.
Hao-Tong Li to make the cut
Li finished T-12 in his last start at Waialae CC in 2022 and the DP World Tour player has been a very reliable cut-maker over the last year, making 23-of-27 cuts. Li has produced 13 top-25 finishes during this year span and he is on the heels of a T-10 finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge last month. Li ranked ninth in GIR% on the DP World Tour last season and he is the No. 86-ranked player in the world. Simply put, these -200 odds to make the cut are very reasonable for a player of Li’s caliber.
Adam Svensson to make the cut
Svensson struggled this past season, making only 13-of-29 cuts, but he advanced to the weekend in two of his final four starts of the fall and he just earned his full-time membership for the 2026 PGA TOUR season by finishing runner-up at the PGA TOUR Q-School tournament last month. Svensson’s game is trending in the right direction and heading to Waialae CC is the perfect place for the 32-year-old to start this new season off with a quality finish. Svensson has never missed a cut in five starts at Waialae CC and three of these finishes have been top-30 results, including a T-7 in 2022. Svensson even has a 9-under 61 on his resume at Waialae CC, which is one stroke shy of his career-low, so his love for this venue is very real.
