These two teams are going in two very different directions lately. Villa are in third place in the Premier League, and have won 12 of their last 14 games in all competitions. Tottenham, on the other hand, sit in 14th position in the league. They have won only one of their last six games, and none of their last three.
Villa are the in-form team, and have dominated this fixture recently. These teams most recently met up at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October of last year, with Aston Villa coming away with a 2-1 win. In the previous two games between these sides, Villa won both. The Villans have three straight wins over Spurs, and I’d be surprised if they don’t make it four in a row on Saturday.
The pressure is starting to mount on Thomas Frank, and this might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back if they suffer another defeat. Aston Villa are essentially playing with house money given their start to the season, but Unai Emery will know that this competition and the Europa League are their best chance at silverware despite sitting third in the Premier League table.
