Black Monday came and went with four head coach firings, but the biggest move of the cycle thus far came on Tuesday afternoon. After 18 seasons at the helm for the Baltimore Ravens, head coach John Harbaugh was relieved of his duties in a massive firing that sends shockwaves across the rest of the league. The former Super Bowl winner now becomes the top candidate on the open market and will likely have his pick of available openings — and possibly even jobs that are currently filled by coaches under contract.
Early reports following the shakeup link Harbaugh to the New York Giants. Does a move to the Big Apple make sense for both sides or will a different candidate get the nod instead?

Will the Giants hire John Harbaugh?
After a 4-13 finish to the 2025-26 NFL regular season, the Giants ended up with the second-worst record of any team behind the Raiders, Jets, Titans, and Cardinals in a three-way tie with three wins apiece. While it’s been quite some time since the G-Men were a truly stable organization, there are some signs that indicate this job may actually entice a higher-profile hire to step in. Those signs starts with a potential franchise quarterback in Jaxson Dart, who’s joined by standout weapons Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo (though both are currently rehabbing season-ending injuries). That collection of young offensive talent could prove interesting to any coach, and there’s firepower on defense despite the unit’s underperformance with key pieces like Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Jevon Holland as part of the core.
Could New York entice John Harbaugh? Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former Ravens head coach is expected to be the favorite for the Giants’ opening. After amassing a 180-113 record as an NFL head coach, winning Coach of the Year in 2019 and capturing a Lombardi Trophy in Super Bow XLVII, it’s easy to see how he could revitalize the organization.
As indicated by the current betting odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for the Giants’ next head coach, Harbaugh is indeed the leader in the early hours of his free agency. The 63-year-old comes in as a +150 favorite, which also makes sense given the reporting from Schefter as well as other NFL sources. It’s worth noting that Harbaugh will almost certainly be the hottest commodity on the market though, so other teams are sure to inquire regarding his services. Also per Schefter’s reporting, seven teams reached out to Harbaugh’s agent to express interest. There are seven head coach jobs available including Baltimore, which means other franchises may explore firing names currently under contract.
There is one other notable candidate just a hair behind Harbaugh on the odds leaderboard. The Browns let go of two-time Coach of the Year winner Kevin Stefanski, who holds +175 odds of becoming the Giants’ next head coach. Cleveland’s decision to move on from the 43-year-old was also somewhat of a head scratcher given his track record — as one of the brighter offensive minds in the NFL with six years’ experience in a lead role, he’ll likely be quite sought after as well. According to Schefter, Stefanski will actually interview with New York on Wednesday.
The Giants’ search does show the makings of a two-man race between Harbaugh and Stefanski, and at this point, the signing of one of them appears more likely than not. However, anything can happen in this league and situations like these often move fast. On DraftKings Sportsbook, the next-closest candidate is former Packers and Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy at +600 odds as the longtime veteran garners interest from various teams. Other notable names behind him are Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley (+850), former Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury (+950) and Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula (+950).
