Cap is back: After a week of leaks and speculation Marvel Studios confirmed through the release of a teaser trailer that Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.

In the trailer we see Steve riding a motorcycle before coming to a stop and removing a helmet that is very reminiscent of his helmet in Captain America: The First Avenger. He then gets off in front of a house that appears to be the one we see Steve dance with Peggy in at the end of Avengers: Endgame. We then see the man pull out Cap’s Endgame era suit, before putting it away. Finally, we see Steve looking down at a baby and smiling. The trailer concludes with the famous tag seen at the end of most Marvel movies: Steve Rogers Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday.

Chris Evans has steadfastly held in the years since Endgame that he was “happily retired” from Marvel after his Cap handed over the iconic shield to Sam Wilson, including as recently as in the run up to Captain America: Brave New World earlier this year. Evans did make a brief cameo return to the MCU in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, playing his variant of Johnny Storm/The Human Torch from the 2005 version of The Fantastic Four.

Minimal plot details have emerged regarding Doomsday beyond the casting of MCU stalwart Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom and now the return of Evans’ Steve Rogers. The Rogers trailer debuted in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash and IGN is reporting that the next teaser trailer will focus on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, which is due in theaters in 2027. Both Doomsday and Secret Wars are set to be helmed by the Russo brothers, who directed multiple Captain America movies as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
