Just hours before Monday night’s matchup vs. the Dolphins, the Steelers have added Jaylen Warren ($9,000 for Showdown) to their injury report and are listing him as questionable with an illness for this matchup.
This news comes after Warren and Kenneth Gainwell ($7,000) were in a near-even split in last Sunday’s win over the Ravens. Warren saw 11 touches on 26 snaps, while Gainwell saw 10 touches on 25 snaps, resulting in 16.2 and 15.2 FPTS for the backs, respectively.
Gainwell has been slowly eating into Warren’s workload recently and while NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting Warren is optimistic about playing tonight, Gainwell seeing more work than Warren with the latter under the weather feels likely, making Gainwell a strong target for Monday’s Showdown slate on DraftKings, possibly as the captain in your lineup.
Gainwell has been very efficient this season, averaging a career-high 4.6 YPC. The veteran has also been effective in the passing game, hauling in 90.9% of his targets and garnering a target on an excellent 25% of his routes. Fantasy-wise, Gainwell ranks eighth among all running backs in FPTS per snap (0.44).
Gainwell should see around 15 touches with Warren dealing with an illness and this is a plus matchup, as the Dolphins’ main weakness on defense is stopping the run, with them allowing the fifth-most yards per rush this season (4.8). In this situation, Gainwell has strong upside. In the six contests the back has seen 10+ touches this season, Gainwell is producing 18.4 FPTS per game.
