BREAK IT DOWN:
(stats taken from DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub)
Donovan Mitchell 30+ Points (-113): Mitchell is one of four players currently averaging over 30.0 points per game, joining Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Maxey and Luka Doncic. He’s also registered at least 30 points in 13 of his 21 starts, including eight of his last 11. So, yeah, I guess you could say that history is on your side if you’re one of the many backing this prop on Friday’s slate. It also doesn’t hurt matters that the Cavaliers have already ruled out Darius Garland (toe) for tonight’s tilt with the Spurs — the first leg of a back-to-back set. Mitchell’s usage rate jumps from 30.1% when he’s sharing the court with Garland to an even more robust 33.2% when his teammate is off the floor. Add in San Antonio’s 118.3 defensive rating over its past five contests, and the formula for a huge Mitchell performance is staring your right in the face.
Kevin Durant 3+ Three-Pointers Made (+173): At first blush, this is a bit of an interesting prop — at least for it’s overall popularity. Kevin Durant is Kevin Durant, but the 15-time All-Star is averaging fewer three-point attempts per game (4.8) than he has since all the way back in 2012-13. He’s also shooting “just” 37.0% on these three-balls, after producing a 40% mark or better from beyond the arc each of the past three seasons. It’s not like the Suns have a horrible defense, either. Phoenix sits inside the top 10 in defensive rating (113.2), while conceding the ninth-fewest opponent three-pointers per contest (12.8). Durant was unavailable when these two squads last met on November 24, which means tonight marks his first matchup with his old team since the offseason trade that sent him to Houston. Is a revenge narrative enough for this prop to hit? I guess we’ll see.
Nikola Jokic Triple-Double, Yes (-125): Can we just take a moment to appreciate how wild it is to have a player in the league who is consistently favored to record a triple-double? Thus is life in the Nikola Jokic era. For the second consecutive season, Jokic is averaging a triple-double, posting 28.7 points, 12.7 rebounds and 11.1 assists per game. If those totals seem incredulous — they are. In fact, the former MVP leads the NBA in total rebounds (264) and total assists (234), while also sitting No. 1 with 11 triple-doubles. He’s simply a human cheat code when it comes to counting stats. Specific to Friday, a tilt with the Hawks isn’t an ideal setting, as Atlanta’s fortified its defense since losing Trae Young (knee) to injury early in the season. However, both Jalen Johnson (calf) and Kristaps Porzingis (illness) are questionable to play, which could leave the Hawks without size and two fantastic individual defenders.
3-Leg Parlay
Taking three of the most-bet player props individually is always an option, but why not roll them into a parlay and get in on all the action at once? It’s a fun way to tie everything together — feel free to tag along.
