The 2024 NFL Draft has made a bit of history already, with quarterbacks being taken with the first three selections. The Chicago Bears took Caleb Williams at No. 1, the Washington Commanders snagged Jayden Daniels at No. 2 and the New England Patriots rounded out the quarterback run with Drake Maye at No. 3. So when was the last time quarterbacks went 1-2-3 in the draft?
We don’t have to go very far back to see three quarterbacks with the first three selections. The 2021 NFL Draft saw Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Trey Lance go to the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers respectively. Unfortunately for the Jets and 49ers, Wilson and Lance are no longer in place as they didn’t pan out. Wilson is attempting to revitalize his career with the Broncos, while Lance is a backup on the Cowboys. Lawrence is still the starter in Jacksonville and has been productive, but might still have some questions to answer in a conference loaded with top quarterbacks.
It’ll be interesting to see how the 2024 class stacks up to those three guys. Williams and Daniels both won the Heisman Trophy in college, while Maye was a stat machine at UNC. All three should be better than Wilson and Lance, while Williams is probably considered a better prospect than Lawrence was coming out of college. That’ll likely be the measuring stick for now for these three quarterbacks.
