After averaging a triple-double last season, Jokic has taken things to a new level. The Serbian big man is averaging 25.2 points, 13 rebounds, and an NBA-leading 11.9 assists per game. The three-time MVP is shooting an absurd 78.6% inside the arc to start the year.
That efficiency was on display last night against the Kings. Jokic put up 35 points on 16-for-19 shooting (84.2%) — his fourth 30+ point performance in his last five games. But his work is cut out for him tonight.
Ivica Zubac is twice the defender Domantas Sabonis is. Heck, he might be three or four times better. Historically, he has been one of the most effective defenders of Nikola Jokic. Zubac’s post strength and quick hands make for as good a tool set as anyone can have against the league’s top post player.
But Jokic always has counters. If his scoring is taken away, he can dime up his teammates all over the floor. Los Angeles’ defense outside of Zubac has been fairly disastrous, and Jokic will have plenty of opportunities to find cutters and shooters. It should be another hefty playmaking night for Denver’s superstar.
