Like many teams in the jumbled MAC, Toledo still has a shot to make the conference championship game. The Rockets are in a group of several teams with two conference losses. One of the three teams ahead of them is the Miami Redhawks. A win in this game would be massive for Toledo on its quest for a conference title. On paper, Toledo is one of the most talented teams in the conference. However, the Rockets have taken a couple of losses in conference play. One of those losses came to first-place Western Michigan. However, the other loss was an awful one against Bowling Green. Toledo needs to win out to keep its season alive, and it starts with this big matchup.

Miami tested itself with a tough out-of-conference schedule against Wisconsin, UNLV and Rutgers. Despite losing all three of those games, the strong competition clearly got Miami ready for MAC play. The Redhawks won five straight games following those opening three losses. That is, until they dropped their first conference game of the season last week against Ohio. Miami has a tough last three weeks ahead with this game against Toledo and a massive matchup against Buffalo, as well. Dequan Finn is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the conference and has done well to guide his team this far. Finn is just a few wins away from claiming his second career MAC title and will be determined to take down his former team in this game.

My best bet for this game is for Toledo to cover as road favorites. Dequan Finn won a MAC title with Toledo in 2023 before transferring out to Baylor. The quarterback who took over for Finn was Tucker Gleason, who is now ready to win his own conference championship with the Rockets. It is now Finn facing his former team in one of the biggest games of the MAC season, but Toledo has a few key edges. Toledo has one of the best defenses in the Group of Five. The Rockets rank second in the nation in defensive EPA/play and fourth in defensive success rate. They know Dequan Finn better than anyone and should be ready to shut down this Miami offense. Meanwhile, Tucker Gleason and the Toledo offense should move it against a Miami team that ranks 109th in defensive success rate. The Rockets are the better team on both sides of the ball and should prove it on the field on Wednesday night.
