The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Washington Commanders to close down the Week 8 NFL slate on Monday Night Football. Patrick Mahomes and company have rebounded from their poor start to the season and have moved to 4-3 while winning their past two games by a combined 61-17 margin.
They have a great chance to continue adding to this against a Commanders team that will be without quarterback Jayden Daniels. Washington enters with a 3-4 record on the season.
Looking at the odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, the Chiefs enter as 10.5-point favorites and hold -600 odds on the moneyline. The Commanders hold +440 odds of getting the outright victory, with the game total set at 47.5 points.

It was an uncharacteristic start to the season for the Kansas City Chiefs. They dropped to 0-2 and then 2-3, but are now back above .500 and looking like the perennial Super Bowl contender they are expected to be. This has largely been aided by the return of Xavier Worthy from injury and Rashee Rice from suspension.
Patrick Mahomes remains the gold standard of quarterback play in the NFL and his stats have begun returning to the norm. Through the opening seven games, he is averaging 257.1 passing yards per game and is using his legs at an increased rate by averaging 35.7 rushing yards per game. He has tallied over 300.5 combined passing and rushing yards in three of the seven games overall and two of the past three.
Mahomes will now set his sights on a Commanders defense that ranks 27th in yards allowed and 26th in passing yards conceded. The Chiefs offense looks back to itself and Mahomes is responsible for running the show. This is the same guy who has averaged 308+ passing yards per game throughout three seasons in his career. While I also don’t mind the standard passing prop line of 275.5 yards, Mahomes has leaned on his legs at a far more regular rate this year. This has largely been due to an inconsistent run game around him, but the two-time MVP has taken off at least four times in every game and has rushed for 57+ yards in three games. Expect him to take whatever the Commanders’ defense gives him and eclipse 300.5 combined passing and rushing yards for the third time in the past four games.

Speaking off Mahomes’ rushing ability, this also has come into play in the red zone. He has reached the end zone with his legs in four of the seven games thus far. The three-time Super Bowl champion has 10 carries in the red zone, which is just one behind Kareem Hunt for the most on the Chiefs.
Kansas City has leaned on a rushing attack by committee with Hunt, Isiah Pacheco and rookie Brashard Smith each playing a role. But plenty of its offense is still dependent on Mahomes’ backyard style of play where he rolls out and sees what he has in front of him. He will not see designed runs at the rate of some other quarterbacks, but he has immense trust within Kansas City’s offense and has made the most of these chances.
Washington gave up 44 points to the Cowboys last week and ranks 21st in scoring defense overall. Expect Kansas City to have success putting up points in this matchup and for Mahomes to be at the heart of this.
