The NBA is back, and that means the stars have returned to the court. The most interesting star to get a look at is Victor Wembanyama. He’s done it all this offseason: studied with monks in China, read Brandon Sanderson books, and allegedly grown another two inches. Now he’s ready to lead the Spurs to new heights and capitalize on his immense potential, moving inexorably towards the title of the best in the world.
The Spurs are 2.5-point road underdogs on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Mavericks are priced at -148 on the moneyline, while the Spurs are at +124. The total for this game is set at 223.5 points. Let’s get into my favorite Victor Wembanyama prop bet for this Spurs vs. Mavericks game.
Best Victor Wembanyama Prop Bets
Last year’s campaign being cut short by a blood clot was nothing less than a travesty. Wembanyama had increased his points per game, two-point percentage, three-point percentage, rebounds per game, and blocks per game from his rookie season. Considering he won Rookie of the Year, made first-team All-Defense, and placed second in a DPOY race he should have won, it’s a lofty bar to clear. But clear it he did.
Now he’s primed for a monster campaign. The Spurs added more depth and another blue-chip prospect in Dylan Harper. With some health, they should make a push for the playoffs, and Wemby could net his DPOY while getting some MVP consideration. But first things first: this battle with the Dallas Mavericks.
It’s a fascinating matchup. Dallas’ No. 1 pick, Cooper Flagg, will get the start at point guard. He’s flanked by two 6’7″ wings, Klay Thompson and PJ Washington, and has a pair of seven-footers in the frontcourt with Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II starting. It’s a defense-first group that has monstrous potential on the glass. And San Antonio will throw out counters of their own.
I’d expect new signee Luke Kornet to get the start—two seven-footers against two seven-footers to even things out. Head coach Mitch Johnson can take the reins off Wemby to roam around, blocking shots and shooting threes, while Kornet takes on a lot of the rebounding responsibilities. It could make them dangerous, but it does limit Vic’s rebounding potential. Don’t count on the future MVP to pick up a ton of boards tonight.
