Is George Pickens still a must-start if CeeDee Lamb returns in Week 7?

CeeDee Lamb ($7,500) has been sidelined for the last three games, but the Cowboys “have a chance” to get the star wideout back this Sunday vs. the Commanders, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Lamb is leading Dallas with a 28.2% target share this season, so his return certainly would affect the Cowboys’ passing game. With Lamb sidelined for the last three games, George Pickens ($7,300) has been Dallas’ alpha receiver and flourished with the role. The veteran is leading the Cowboys with a 26% target share and he is producing a whopping 28.3 FPTS per game with Lamb inactive for the last three games, making Pickens the No. 1 scoring skill player for fantasy football during this stretch.

However, things were much different with Lamb active for the first three games of the season. In these contests, Pickens averaged 13.9 FPTS per game and he handled a 17.1% target share, ranking second only to Lamb in this department for Dallas. That being said, Pickens scored 17+ FPTS in two of these three games and he saw elite red-zone usage with seven red-zone targets, compared to just one for Lamb.

Pickens’ upside is obviously lower if Lamb plays, but Pickens is still a strong fantasy option playing alongside Lamb, given the Cowboys rank seventh in pass rate (65%) and their defense is so poor that almost all of Dallas’ games are shootouts. This season, Cowboys games are generating a league-high 60 PPG.

Dallas is expected to compete in another shootout this Sunday vs. the Commanders, with this game presenting 54.5-point total on DraftKings Sportsbook, which is the largest total the NFL has seen this season. Plus, Washington is giving up the third-most yards per pass (7.6) and the second-most passing plays over 15 yards this season (39).

Even if Lamb plays, Pickens could go off in this elite spot vs. the Commanders and he is still a locked-in WR2 for all season-long leagues for Week 7. For DFS, Pickens is priced appropriately at $7,300 on DraftKings, but he could get overlooked if Lamb plays and attacking Pickens in GPPs as a part of a game stack for this season-high total will be a sharp strategy.
