The Travis Hunter fantasy football experiment is over. After six weeks, it’s time to bench last season’s Heisman Trophy winner.
He is tied for WR59 on DraftKings after Week 6 with 39.7 FPTS. His 6.6 FPTS per game is good enough for a tie of 75th among wideouts in DraftKings fantasy scoring. The numbers are not good, and it’s clear the reason why is that he’s playing both ways. It may work for the Jaguars, but for fantasy football owners, these numbers are just not good enough.
While Hunter definitely isn’t starter-worthy at the moment, he should probably be kept on the bench instead of being dropped altogether. His role seems pretty solidified at the moment, but it does feel like he could potentially get more offensive snaps at some point this season. We’ll see.
Hunter has played 62.84% of offensive snaps this season, the second most among Jacksonville wideouts. He has the second most targets (31) and is tied for the second most receptions (20). He is third in receiving yards behind Brian Thomas Jr. and Brenton Strange. So what’s the problem?
Hunter hasn’t been much of a deep threat this season, only averaging 9.9 yards per reception. His 20 receptions and 197 receiving yards in six games aren’t enough to be considered start-worthy in fantasy football, and his absence of a touchdown just makes matters worse. Hunter only has two red zone targets this season.
Trevor Lawrence has been spreading the ball around as well, with seven different Jaguar players recording at least 11 targets through six games. All of this has culminated in an abysmal fantasy season, and I don’t see it getting any better in Week 7 against a Rams defense that is ninth in the league against the pass while allowing 199 yards per game.
Bench Travis Hunter until he either has a breakout game or sees an increased usage in this offense.
