Carnell Tate is one of the most underrated receivers in college football. On most teams in the country, he would be the clear top receiver. Even last season, he could have been the WR1 on many teams in college football. However, in 2024, he was the WR3 at Ohio State behind Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka. Egbuka is now the favorite to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, allowing Tate to step up to the WR2 role. Carnell Tate has almost matched Jeremiah Smith’s numbers this season, despite Smith being a serious Heisman candidate. Tate ranks 22nd in the nation in receiving yards, despite not being the top target on his own team. Tate is coming off the best game of his career, going for 183 yards against Minnesota. He should have another big game against Illinois. The Fighting Illini rank outside the top 90 in both defensive EPA/pass and defensive passing success rate. Tate has scored a touchdown in four out of five games this season and should add another one against Illinois.
Luke Altmyer 211+ Passing Yards (-114)
Luke Altmyer has been having a great season for Illinois. He is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in college football, in his third season as a starter for Illinois. He had a fantastic 2024 season and has carried that momentum over to 2025. He has 14 total touchdowns and no interceptions this season. Altmyer is one of only two quarterbacks in the nation with at least 12 passing touchdowns and no interceptions. This will be his toughest test of the season against an Ohio State defense that is one of the best in the nation. However, Altmyer is very experienced and has faced elite defenses in the past at Illinois. He won’t dice up the Buckeyes’ defense by any means, but he should use his experience to find the smart throws and not force anything. The Ohio State offense is likely to score points, and Altmyer will need to throw it to keep his team in the game. He has thrown for at least 328 yards in each of his past two games and should throw for at least 211 yards against the Buckeyes.
