Is Hunter Long a viable play for Week 6 with Brenton Strange out?

The Jaguars defeated the Chiefs this past Monday night, but Brenton Strange got hurt for Jacksonville in the win. The tight end exited the game with a quad injury and is being placed on IR, meaning he will miss at least four games.

Strange has handled a solid role for the Jaguars this season, ranking second for the team in target share (17.3%) and third in route rate (68%). Strange’s absence creates a sizable void within Jacksonville’s offense. With him out this Sunday vs. the Seahawks, Hunter Long ($2,500) should start at tight end, making him a viable DFS punt at his bare minimum salary.

Long has been targeted on 21% of his routes this season, including three in the redzone, on 38 routes. He’s scored twice despite played behind Strange. Additionally, Long ranks third in FPTS per snap among all tight ends this season (0.30).

Long should run a route on most of his team’s dropbacks this Sunday. This is a compelling matchup vs. Seattle, as the Seahawks are giving up the most catches (35) and fifth-most touchdowns to tight ends this season (3). In this spot, Long absolutely has the potential for double-digit FPTS.

On DraftKings Sportsbook, the Jaguars are a 1.5-point favorite over the Seahawks.
