American Pharoah Stakes Presented by DK Horse Preview & Picks
The Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes Presented by DK Horse runs at Santa Anita this Saturday, October 4th. Formerly the Frontrunner Stakes, the 1 1/16 mile race is California’s first prep race pointing to next year’s Kentucky Derby.
Renamed after American Pharoah’s Triple Crown winning season, in addition to its namesake the list of past performers boasts a number of Kentucky Derby runners including champions, Nyquist (2016), and fellow Triple Crown Winner, Justify (2018).
This year’s field of six horses will feature four trained by Bob Baffert and one each from Jeff Mullins and Doug O’Neill, We can expect a hotly contested dirt route for this small group of 2026 Kentucky Derby hopefuls.
