The first game of Week 5 will take place in Los Angeles on Thursday night as the 49ers face the Rams.
Matthew Stafford is 37 years old, but he hasn’t looked like it through four games. The former Lion looks as elite as ever, and the numbers back that up. Stafford is top 10 in passing yards, passing touchdowns, QBR and passer rating. Can he continue his fine form on Thursday against a stingy 49ers secondary?

Through four games, Matthew Stafford has completed 67.6% of his passes while throwing for 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns to two interceptions. It’s been an electric start for him, and now the Rams have a chance to assert themselves in the NFC West on Thursday night.
The 49ers defense has been good against the pass this season, ranking sixth in the league, allowing 165 yards per game. However, they haven’t played a passing attack like the Rams quite yet. San Francisco has faced Sam Darnold, Spencer Rattler, Kyler Murray and Trevor Lawrence this season. Not the four worst quarterbacks in the NFL, but Stafford is a level above all of them.
Stafford has gone over 31.5 passing attempts in three of his four games this season. In Week 1, he fell just shy of 32 passing attempts with 29. His 136 passing attempts on the season average out to 34 per game, and I would expect him to get by this number in this one for the fourth time in five games. When you have Puka Nacua and Davante Adams on your team, you might as well get them the ball. The two of them have combined for 85 of those targets, and that recipe should continue on Thursday.
Despite the 49ers being a solid pass defense, the Rams will try to throw it against anyone, and why not? They have one of the best wideout tandems in football right now and a quarterback who is aging like a fine wine.
