The tennis world is starting to pick up steam again as the 2025 Shanghai Masters gets underway. It is the start of a good run of October tennis tournaments.

2025 Shanghai Masters
After an exciting Laver Cup that featured many of the best players in the world, the regular ATP schedule is headed down the final stretch. Jannik Sinner, who didn’t participate in the Laver Cup, just won another title at the China Open. Now, a great field of players heads to Shanghai for the second-to-last ATP Masters 1000 event of the season. Of the seven ATP Masters 1000 events played this season, Carlos Alcaraz has won three of them. That is why his absence from this event is so noticeable. Alcaraz just defeated Taylor Fritz in the Japan Open Final, but he chose to back out of this event at the last minute to focus on his health. That makes Jannik Sinner the clear favorite to win the Shanghai Masters as he looks to secure his first ATP Masters 1000 title of the season and inch closer to Alcaraz in the world rankings.
Shanghai Masters Pick, Prediction
It’s hard to bet against Sinner in any field, especially one that doesn’t involve Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner has made two ATP Masters 1000 finals this season, but lost to Alcaraz in both of them. As demonstrated in the Grand Slams this year, Alcaraz is the only one with a real chance against Sinner when he is playing his best tennis. There are some exciting players in the field like Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime, but all have struggled against Sinner over the years. Novak Djokovic was a last-minute addition to the field, but he admitted at the US Open that he can no longer keep up with the likes of Sinner and Alcaraz. Jannik Sinner should secure his first ATP Masters 1000 title of the season. Since he is a big favorite, here are some bets you can make on DraftKings Sportsbook without having to worry about fading Sinner.
Felix Auger-Aliassime to Make Final (+1000)
The surprising performer of the 2025 US Open was Felix Auger-Aliassime. Auger-Aliassime was once one of the bright young stars in men’s tennis before seeing a major drop-off in form. However, he started to find that form again in 2024. Auger-Aliassime finished in fourth place in singles at the 2024 Olympics and won the bronze medal in mixed doubles. He also made his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 Final in Madrid. At 10/1, I am betting on Auger-Aliassime to get to his second-ever ATP Masters 1000 Final.
Felix Auger-Aliassime made it to the US Open semifinals before losing to Jannik Sinner. That truly announced his return to the top of the game. In this tournament, he has the second-best odds to win his quarter of the bracket, behind only Alexander Zverev. Auger-Aliassime just beat Zverev at the US Open, so he should be confident in that matchup. If he makes it through his quarter of the bracket to the semifinals, he will have a favorable matchup against the winner of the other quarter in his half of the bracket. That would be somebody like Alex de Minaur or Daniil Medvedev. Carlos Alcaraz was supposed to be in this half of the bracket, but he is no longer in the field. That makes this half of the bracket wide open, and Auger-Aliassime is in the form to win it.
Learner Tien to Make Semifinals (+1400)
Learner Tien is a rising star in American tennis and on the ATP Tour. The 19-year-old just made his first career ATP Tour Final in the China Open, where he fell to Jannik Sinner. Tien is now the 36th-ranked player in the world heading into this tournament. He is also a major beneficiary of Carlos Alcaraz dropping out, as that is the quarter of the bracket he was supposed to be in. That is now the easiest quarter of the bracket, with Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev as the two favorites to win it. Tien just defeated Medvedev in the China Open, so that is a matchup where he will feel confident. Tien would avoid, at the very least, the top-five-ranked players in this tournament en route to the semifinals. The sixth-highest-ranked player in the field, Alex de Minaur, would be the toughest test in his way. However, that matchup would not be until the quarterfinals, which gives plenty of time for someone else to pull off that upset for Tien. The youngster is full of confidence, and at 14/1, he is worth a bet to win the weakest quarter of this draw.
