Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Temple Owls prediction, pick for CFB Week 4 on Saturday 9/20/25

Bobby Dodd stages a classic danger spot for a newly ranked team: momentum humming, number inflated, opponent overlooked. Georgia Tech carries a perfect 3-0 mark and a 3-0 ATS run into a line that’s ballooned to -24.5 with a total of 52.5, while Temple arrives 2-1 and far more organized than the Oklahoma scoreline suggested. The market’s implied script is Yellow Jackets 38, Owls 14, but the winning path looks narrower and slower than that projection. Below is my prediction and pick for College Football Week 4’s game between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Temple Owls on Saturday.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Georgia Tech vs. Temple prediction, preview

Georgia Tech is scoring 36.7 points per game while allowing 17.7, and Temple counters at 33.3 for and 19.7 against. The Owls have been pristine with the football—zero turnovers allowed through three games (1st nationally)—and they’ve forced four (47th). Georgia Tech has been looser, charged with five giveaways (105th) and three takeaways (69th). That ball-security gap matters in a game where the favorite prefers to live on the ground and where long, clock-eating drives will outnumber quick-strike volleys.

Quarterback Haynes King gives Georgia Tech its beating heart. He has thrown for 354 yards at 68.8% with one interception, but he’s really punished defenses with his legs: 259 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, and 129.5 rushing yards per game. Running back Jamal Haynes (183 yards, three touchdowns, 4.9 YPC) provides the steady changeup while running back Malachi Hosley (160 yards, 8.4 YPC, 2 touchdowns) spikes the per-carry explosion. When the Jackets needed answers against Clemson, King completed 71.4% for 211 yards and ran 25 times for 103 and a score; the staff trusted designed runs and short-window throws, and it translated to an 8-for-15 conversion rate on third down and a 24-21 win. That blueprint bleeds clock and hides variance, and it’s exactly how a big favorite sits on a game.

Temple brings a quarterback who protects every snap. Quarterback Evan Simon has stacked 497 yards at 66.7% with 9 touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s spreading the ball with purpose to tight end Peter Clarke (six catches, 119 yards, two touchdowns) while running back Jevyon Ducker sets the floor on the ground at 239 rushing yards on 6.6 YPC with 79.7 rushing yards per game. The Owls were overwhelmed by Oklahoma, but the offense still owns a credible downfield pulse: 20+-yard passes on 13.9% of attempts. Georgia Tech’s back end has limited explosives, allowing 20+ on just 7.1% of throws, which hints that Temple’s chunk plays will be rationed into field goals and punts rather than a cascade of quick points.

The trench chess is honest and physical, and it tilts toward a methodical pace. Linebacker Cam’Ron Stewart is Temple’s disruptor with 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks, and he’ll be the first read key on every zone-read keeper King carries. Georgia Tech’s front has answered with leverage of its own: defensive lineman Akelo Stone and defensive lineman Amontrae Bradford have combined for 4.0 sacks and 5.0 TFL, and defensive back Omar Daniels already owns an interception among 13 tackles. Those pieces, plus defensive back Clayton Powell-Lee’s 14 tackles, form a unit that just held Clemson to 21 in a high-stress game. That defensive baseline, paired with an offense that can run the ball in waves, suppresses total-game volatility.

Temple vs. Georgia Tech pick, best bet

Temple’s drive-sustaining traits complicate the blowout angle more than the spread suggests—and they also lean toward a lower total. The Owls are perfect on fourth down (100.0%), and they’ve been airtight late, ranking tied-for-1st in fourth-quarter opponent points per game at 0.0. Georgia Tech has been excellent late too, tied-for-13th with 11.7 fourth-quarter points per game, but that clash of closing tendencies typically resolves into clock over fireworks: long, patient possessions, fewer total drives, and a scoreboard that ticks instead of pops. Add in Temple’s discipline with the ball and a three-plus-touchdown favorite starts to find fewer extra possessions than a 38-14 implication assumes.

The difference arrives in how Georgia Tech’s quarterback run game distorts structure on money downs. When King becomes a designed runner, linebackers squeeze a gap a half beat early, and that’s when Haynes finds the cutback or wide receiver Isiah Canion (eight receptions, 110 yards, 1 touchdown) sneaks behind rotating safeties on a glance or a slot fade. If Temple survives those conflict snaps—especially Stewart holding his edge and Clarke stealing a few chain-moving seams to keep Simon in favorable script—its defense can force field goals and extend the game to the under. If not, Georgia Tech gets short fields off a misfit or two and threatens the number with red-zone conversions. The Owls’ ability to limit yards after contact from Hosley and Haynes is the quiet hinge here.

Georgia Tech just beat a top-15 opponent and now sits as a massive favorite with conference play looming; the incentive structure screams “control and get out healthy.” Temple, for its part, has covered two of three and plays through a quarterback who won’t throw it away and a tailback who averages 6.6 per carry. Each side points the needle toward sustained drives rather than fireworks. That’s how big spreads drift toward the dog yet still cash for a total under.

Georgia Tech 34, Temple 13. We’re taking the under.

Best bet: Georgia Tech vs. Temple u52.5 total points (-110)
