Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo left Friday’s game with a trainer after taking the mound to warm up ahead of the sixth inning.
Whether Woo suffered some kind of injury is currently unknown, but the All-Star’s early exit raises plenty of questions in a key series against the Houston Astros to potentially decide the AL West.
Woo pitched five shutout innings against the Astros, striking out seven batters with just one hit allowed and one walk. At the time he exited on Friday, the Mariners held a 2-0 lead entering the sixth inning.
With a 3.02 ERA and 0.94 WHIP on the season along with 191 strikeouts, the ace plays a massive role for a team looking to punch their postseason ticket. If he did suffer some kind of injury, the implications would potentially be massive with just over a week remaining in the regular season and the playoffs fast approaching.
The Mariners are 84-69 prior to the conclusion of Friday’s game and sit tied with the Astros for the AL West lead. With the tiebreaker split at five games apiece, the winner of this three-game series likely claims a division title.
