It’s only Week 4, but perhaps the biggest game of the Big 12’s season takes place on Saturday as No. 17 Texas Tech travels to Salt Lake City for a meeting with No. 16 Utah. As this high-flying Red Raiders offense led by Behren Morton clashes with Dillon Dampier and the Utes’ pounding ground game, there should be fireworks on display as these conference contenders go head-to-head.

Reggie Virgil 50+ receiving yards (-105)
Texas Tech hasn’t yet played a truly difficult opponent after facing Arkansas Pine Bluff, Kent State and Oregon State. However, the results thus far are difficult to deny as the Red Raiders operate one of the nation’s most impressive offenses with 602.7 yards per game. They don’t run a true air raid, but the influence of such systems feels undeniable as the team averages 387.7 passing yards per contest, the second-most of any team. Quarterback Behren Morton looks like a sleeper Heisman Trophy candidate, and even in a tough matchup, there’s plenty of upside with this offense.
Look no further than wideout Reggie Virgil, the Miami (OH) transfer playing X receiver on the outside. While he’s fifth on the team in receiving yards with 135, the big-bodied wideout sits tied for the team lead with 11 receptions. Take the Texas Tech stats with a grain of salt too, especially since most starters sat out significant time over the course of three blowout wins. In what should be a much more competitive game, Virgil should see the field plenty as a reliable option for Morton. The Utes’ defense does stand out as one of the best units in the nation against the pass, but the passing volume should see Virgil easily exceed this 50-yard mark on Saturday after he did so in two of three games so far. After all, there’s plenty to like about the 6-foot-3 wideout, and he’s been a go-to option in the red zone with three receiving scores already, too.
Devon Dampier 70+ rushing yards (-117)
Quarterback Devon Dampier can sling the football, but he’s even better with his legs. The Utah offense provides plenty of opportunities for the talented junior to showcase his athleticism as his team prioritizes a hard-nosed rushing attack to grind opponents into submission. The Utes’ 290.0 rushing yards per game rank seventh nationally with 145 total attempts, fourth-most. The volume is there for success, but what does the matchup say for Dampier?
Through the first three games of 2025, the junior tallied 16, four, and 13 carries on the ground with yardage totals of 87, 25 and 86. He’s scored just one touchdown, but it’s clear Dampier’s rushing ability brings an extra element to this Utah attack that can prove quite difficult to stop. Texas Tech does boast one of the best front sevens in college football while limiting opponents to just 41.3 yards per game so far. However, the Utes are the best team the Red Raiders will have faced yet and have much more talent in the backfield than any opponent thus far. Between designed runs and opportunities to scramble when forced from the pocket, Dampier can rack up at least 70 yards on the ground.
