What happened to Javier Baez? Live injury updates for Tigers vs. Marlins 9/12/25

During the top of the second inning of Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Detroit Tigers centerfielder Javier Baez exited early due to an injury.

In a profound stroke of bad luck, Baez fouled a pitch off his bat directly into his own face.

Baez earned an All-Star nod with the Tigers this season thanks to a strong first half, but his stats have tailed off since then. The 32-year-old is slashing .256/.284/.400 with 100 hits, 53 runs, 52 RBI and 11 home runs in 117 games.

At the time Baez exited Friday’s game against the Marlins, Detroit trailed 1-0.

The Tigers comfortably sit atop the AL Central at 84-63 on the season and appear virtually locked in for a postseason berth.
