Fans first got a taste of zombies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2021. Four years later, the storyline is being revived as part of the long-awaited Marvel Zombies TV show.
The animated adaptation of the cult classic comic run, which is the third project in the MCU’s Phase Six, is sure to be gross, action-packed and full of quips. Here is everything you need to know heading into the animated miniseries:
When does Marvel Zombies come out?
All four episodes of Marvel Zombies are dropping on September 24, 2025. Exact timing is still yet to be announced Episodes should run a little over 30 minutes each, as has been the case with other animated MCU shows.
The miniseries was initially slated to come out in 2024, but it got delayed. It was eventually scheduled to premiere on October 3, 2025, with the next three episodes coming out over the following three Fridays, only for the studio to change course and go with the binge model instead. Ironheart and The Paper are among the other prominent streaming shows that have met similar fates this year.
Where can I watch Marvel Zombies?
Like every other show in the MCU, Marvel Zombies will be available to stream on Disney+.
It is worth noting that Marvel Zombies is rated TV-MA, which is the TV equivalent of an R rating. This is not the first MCU project for mature audiences, though. Deadpool and Wolverine was rated R and Daredevil: Born Again was rated TV-MA.

Based on a combination of cast announcements and footage from the trailer, here is a list of characters who are expected to pop up over the limited four-episode run:

Thames already voiced Spider-Man in What If…? instead of Tom Holland. Ramsey is in the same situation with Okoye, having previously filled in for Danai Gurira. Williams is stepping in for Mahershala Ali, whose Blade solo film has been delayed indefinitely and only made one off-screen appearance in the Eternals post-credit scene. This version of Blade also notably carries the mantle of Moon Knight.
A handful of other characters are expected to appear, although their voice actors or place in the story have yet to be revealed. That list includes Black Panther, Xu Wenwu, Thor, Helmut Zemo, the Death Dealer and Melina Vostokoff. There will also be zombified versions of Captain America, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, Abomination, Ghost, Namor, the Wasp, Ikaris and Thanos.
Marvel Zombies: Explained
Episode 5 of What If…? season 1 – titled “What If… Zombies?!” – kicked off the alternate universe storyline that will continue in Marvel Zombies. Here’s a quick refresher, since it came out all the way back on September 8, 2021.
Instead of returning to Earth to warn the Avengers about Thanos like he does in Avengers: Infinity War, Bruce Banner arrives on a planet overrun by zombies. When Hank Pym rescued Janet van Dyne from the Quantum Realm, she brought back a virus that turned its victims into zombies. The Avengers were almost completely wiped out when they went to San Francisco to stop the outbreak. As a result, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes unleashed their powers upon the world as mindless cannibals.
That is a slightly different setup than the Marvel Zombies comic run, in which characters also retain their intelligence and personality upon infection.
By the end of the 31-minute standalone episode, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Cloak of Levitation escape and head for Wakanda. Vision sacrificed himself by giving the survivors the Mind Stone, which can cure the infected. However, a zombified Thanos is waiting for them there, having already collected four of the six Infinity Stones.
